Thanks to the Singularity 19 thread, I now know what a "Stan" is.
New Star Trek tonight! WOOT!
Between DACs at the moment and can confirm Sonos as a source sucks major ass...not even worth it...I guess it’s yard work
Seems it has not changed much since Sonos first came out. My white Macbook sounded better, with itunes.
Snagged a used Crown X1000 for $110. Hopefully it does not contain the secondhand souls of 1000 Camel Lights.
Probably Marlboro Red's with a helping of Mary Jane
Will do @bixby. It'll be driving a pair of Eminence 12CX.
I'm driving eminence beta 15As from one. Great $100 investment.
Just discovered "Fantasma" by Cornelius. Mind blown.
Haven’t heard it in years. Remember there was a song that sounded like a Beatles song.
“seashore and Horizon”. Listening now. What a great album
London and Edinburgh this coming week. The months of traveling has begun!
She also has a pub suggestion. Grafton Arms on Grafton Way, although she hasn't been there for a while. There are also lots of little restaurants of all kinds on Charlotte Street.
She keeps throwing 'em at me! Near Goodge Street Station there are a load of food carts, lots of choice and very popular.
@pedalhead This is great, thanks so much! Send my regards to your wife please.
Slimming down my work stack - looking for DAP that has great line out to feed Leck. Any recommendations below 250 bucks?
@imackler Sounds like Mr. turtle's goal is to avoid the DAC in the Leckerton and use as amp only if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks for the info! And you're both right - I do aim to use the Leck as amp only, which is why it's handy to know that the chain sounds similar both ways. God I love the Leck.
Yeah, Leck as amp is the way to go. @MrTurtle was thinking that. I just figured it would help to know the Fiio X3ii was not an upgrade.
Had a good time playing saint saens concerto with hamberg camerata. The high I get from performing music.. is it possible with TOTL hifi?
its like fighting an MMA match yourself vs being at the venue watching it live vs watching it on TV. Not comparable.
But can sill be a beautiful experience listening to music. Dancing Also. Did not mean to sound dismissive in my earlier comment
Really like the analogy @jayeshrc . All that practice and preperation...hoping and trusting that everything will come together while you just let go ><. No offense taken @melvilian!
Where do you rank A Love Supreme among Coltrane's albums? I find myself going to it more than any other.
Giant steps.... hmm So many to choose from
It's easily #1 for me, although I love most of his work. If you haven't spent time with it, I highly recommend his album with Johnny Hartman. Their rendition of Billy Strayhorn's Lush Life is superb.
I find it hard to rank since so many of his albums has something to say, from the time of recording them that is. I feel each stand well on their own. But of course, at the time when ALS was released and looking at what other artists were doing...it's just WOW!
Dunno what I've been thinking. The Super 7 is amazing. Never liked an amp more. Why am I letting a few noisy tubes make me want to sell it?
So I blasted through a few options. Torpedo was almost there, but not quite musical enough. Got the thumbs up from the wife to get what I wanted, which was a Liquid Crimson. Then lost a bunch of money to that. Gear purge round 2 to make up for that. Consider selling the Super 7 is probably more about guilt for losing that money than anything else.
Anytime you think of selling the S7, sleep on it. The next day you'll wonder what you were thinking. It's a rare and special sounding amp, not something easily found a second time.
I just hope you don't add another regret to the guilt. That's your call, of course. (I like @Mystic 's post.)
Any of you guys have any experience playing racing sims with VR? Was thinking about getting a Rift to play Project Cars 2
Interested in this as well. I almost bought a PS VR for GT Sport coming out soon but it honestly looks really bad. PC headsets are much more capable though on good hardware.
Yeah, I’ve used a Vive on several occasions, and the screen door effect is real, with the resolution of the screens, but damn is the immersion factor high. I’ve got a gtx1080 so I think my computer could handle it
I tried Driveclub demo on the PS VR. Pretty immersive experience (not so visually) but get motion sickness really quickly. Probably was waiting for the inertia to kick in when turning but never came. If I had the interest, could probably get over it with multiple gaming sessions.
I bought a hot-melt glue gun and a bag full of gluesticks
Maybe I'll just make a lot of emery sticks. But, frankly, contact glue is better at that.
I wouldn't recommend emery sticks for sex, either :/
Hmm... Anybody want a lightly-used hot-melt-glue gun? I could throw in some underwear.
If you listen to speakers- Do something to your room acoustics. Makes more difference than worrying about what new dac or amp to buy!
What have you found provides the biggest bang for your buck as far as room treatments go?
Biggest is placement, to avoid peaks and nulls based on listening position, second is taming first reflections off side walls. I use some big canvas framed paintings (no glass) with quilt thrown over it. One on each side wall approximately where first reflection would be. I raise them off the floor with wood plank to get their centers in line with tweeter height.
Secretly happy that nobody seemed to want the DX2000 at a reasonable price.
Gumby changed my life. Pokey wasn't involved.
Audio is a confusing and expensive world with diminishing returns
If it was cheap and easy then there probably wouldn't be forums for it.
Buy a mimby, build a crack and mod it, plug in HD6X0 and you’ll be happy for relatively cheap. Doesn’t have to be expensive to be enjoyable
Hybrid MTBs can be pretty good. Bought a Decathlon Riverside. With some tweaks a very fun bicycle.
Enjoy! It's a slippery, expensive but fun slope if you get the bug :-)
never seen so many WTB ads in a row. we're movin on up in the world, just look at our marketplace.
Any AK JR owner's out there? I'd appreciate your thoughts about about how much it benefits using with an external/desktop amp via line out.
https://i.imgur.com/fjwgR7v.jpg ...Vali 1 back in rotation! Love the sound and... the ringing ritual
Kind of like a friends reaction to the Monoprice M1060. Somehow he knows it's there along with other issues, but filters them out after a few minutes. I can't. Tried for most of a Saturday. Nope.
Kinda I guess, unlike the M1060 ][from what I've read] the ringing actually does subside with the Vali 1... that is and has always been the case. I just have to turn it on, plug the cans in and let it sit, not super convenient but for $68 I dare you to find a better sounding little amp!!!
Gave my vali 1 to my brother a couple years ago. I still miss it. Groovy little amp.
