Pics with the new prototype are available on HF. Also barring any weird complications, Freya orders should be open Friday(today?).

    Edit:
Just noticed the irony in the Freya available on Friday.

I remember mention of something else being released along side it, I wonder if we will see that today as well.

I tried finding it in the HF thread but no luck, I'll look again.

Jason and I talked about it. He agrees, two must fit side by side on a standard width rack.

Awesome, thanks for the updates! Hopefully no thermal issue sitting two side by side with heatsinks basically touching - I'd bet there's not, though.

    Freya's up.

I'd buy one, but I'll have to stubbornly wait (and probably miss out on, multiple times) for one in black to be available. Kinda wish I hadn't got the black Yggdrasil...makes stuff like this suck.

-edit- I think dimensions are wrong on the specs page.

-edit2- I bought one anyway. Hopefully I'll like the silver and black combo, haha.

Gungnir Multibit - Freya - Jotunheim would be a tidy little "Do everything" stack while preserving the balanced output through the entire chain. Would also maybe add some tube colouration to the Jotunheim, if nobody has tried tube pre-amps into it already.

Unless you want to use unpowered speakers.

Definitely true. Would be truly insane if Schiit started offering an entry priced powered speaker amp (A mini Vidar? Named Fenrir?) with their usual build quality and balanced inputs.

If the Freya had a phono input and headphone out I would be very tempted, although I understand having a headamp built in would be another thing entirely. Combining this with Vidar looks great but wouldn't leave me an option for headphones for late night listening. I wonder if Schiit plans for any other phono gear....

It's probably been mentioned a few times in this thread and elsewhere that if headphones were your target usage, you could always connect your preamp to your current headphone amp and set the latter's volume to max, leaving the preamp in charge of volume control. If for whatever reason you'd require a preamp at all.

Yes, I realized how silly the post seems now. Only reason I'm interested in a preamp is to integrate my digital/headphone setup (Gungnir Multibit) into my turntable/speaker setup.

All this argument applies to balanced only, of course.

If you then want to run power amps or powered monitors in addition to the headamp, you're forced into routing the signal through the headamp. Yes, you get volume control through Freya, but you're limited to the quality of the headamp's line out for the rest of the chain, which IMO is kind of defeating the purpose.

It does seem odd that a company who made their name on headamps doesn't have an elegant solution for integrating one into their 2 channel gear. It makes me hope somethinig is coming...bring on the DACs with dual XLR outs!

Until then you can stick a GoldPoint switch in there for the cost of Saga :).

Magic 8 ball says,"Balanced SYS in 2017." You can quote me on that.

It'd be even better if it could interface with Freya and control the relay stepper inside

When someone receives their Freya, can they measure center-to-center from the tube sockets?

I'm super forgetful, but I'll try to remember.

Got some huge tubes in mind? Or maybe a guard?
