Hi, I am also little late to the party as I though this thread is reserved for Friends.

If not, I am hereby proudly joining the lines of the European SBAFers.

I am from the Czech Republic, the home of the world's best beer! :)

Yeah... They may disagree, they might not like it... but that is all they can do about it ;)

On semi-serious note: we are not really into the fancy English stuff (Stouts, Ales etc.- at least not until recently) but we are great with the classics - lagers and such. You can describe our beer line-up as very similar to the German one (except for the Weiss beer, we are not that into that one)... but just better :)

We are really proud of our pilsner type lager (well, the first pilsner type lager ever): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilsner. But there is so much more :)

Also, recently there is a huge boom of small breweries around the country with some very nice variety ranging from IPAs through lagers and stouts to utterly ridiculous.

Have you been to Belgium, more specifically the Flanders region? I might be Dutch but the beers from the Flanders region are special. Even if Heineken were to offer me a million Euros to sell their beers, if at any moment I could just drink one beer it would be a Belgian one.

Of course a cold Heineken at the end of the day is pleasant. Either way I have to stop derailing this thread now...

P.S. You have made me curious actually. Thing is I am first going to try some Japanese beers these days...

P.P.S. Thanks moderator for making the beer thread.

Posts moved in a dedicated thread.

Yup. I'm usually more into belgian Beers. but recently I discovered a few German beers and it's not bad at all. I still prefer Belgian beers though :)

I'll check if I can find a czech beer somewhere around my place. :)

Deep funk avoid european brewed Japanese beers (i.e brewed under license) at all cost. They suck.

If you can find Japan import Kirin, Ebisu, Asahi or Sapporo, go ahead. Else, just take a pass.

My favorite even if I can't find it in the UK is Boucanier.

I am afraid I would have to pick Delerium Tremens, which I believe is from Belgium over any of the European beers I've ever had. That includes Pilsner Urquell, 2163 H.jpg which I think was being referred to by the op.

This deserves a like. You gave us a reason to start a beer thread.

There is already a beer thread and it's firmly biased towards Belgian beer :D

Germany was my intro to good beer. Belgium seems like a country whose entire culture revolves around beer. I recently discovered Peroni from Italy which is pretty refreshing.

Any German wheat beers, though my favorite was Schneider Weisse Aventinus.

The Czech Republic was amazing for beer when I went there. Hard to go wrong, though I wasn't so sure about some of those odd fruit ones.

I really like the Pilsner Urquell, the best pilsner in the world.... I once went to Praque with two friends, we had some Pilsner Urquell at a local bar, 45 kr (6 eur) for 18 half liters.... Then we visited a tourist trap and paid the same for 3 beers....

But the Belgian Trappist beers are still the best beer, my favorit is the Rockefort, the 6 when I don't want to get too drunk, the 10 when I don't mind....

I have to admit I didn't have much experience with belgian beer until my work buddy brought me back a bottle of Duvel. It coudn't be more different than the stouts and pales I normally drink, but I really liked it. Since then I have found a couple of local breweries that had some great Belgian strong ales and Tripels. I'm starting to become quite a fan of these.

Some of my favs from back in blighty, when i was a nipper, well youngster at any rate......

    Theakson's XB
    Theakson's Old Peculiar
    Marston's Owd Rodger
    Youngers No 3.
    Sam Smith's Old Brewery
    Black Sheep Ale

Having lived in Yorkshire for some time, I much appreciate the darker and more full bodied ales. I have yet to savor a better pint than the Old Peculiar they used to serve on draft at the Bradford University Student's Union bar... just nectar !

Out of mass produced beers that can bought from supermarkets here, this is my favorite right now:

In general I tend to like Belgian and German beers over others.
I'm not a pilsner guy, I like cellar beers, dark beers and a few white beers.

indeed, La Trappe is decent. somehow tho the dutch trappist designation is not as legit as those in Belgium IMO.
would rather select a Rochefort 8 or 10 in comparison if forced.

yet, nothing is wrong with a variety of Belgian beers in general. so cheers!

I shall be opening a Westvleteren 12 with friends on Nov 24/25. Thanks to @jacq ! hope you are well and traveling as always. |\/|
