Network drive feature is working again with Windows 10. I can now download straight to the Daphile server storage drives again!

Experience has improved for me also, but it's a hit or miss with every release. I stayed with March's release and things are pretty peachy now. Still sounds really good, and doesn't crash.

Why would you be using Daphile as a server? You can use anything as a server. I suppose Daphile must be tweaked for music playing.

(I use KXStudio, but not the distribution/entire-repository-contents as I don't need the huge array of music-making tools on top of Linux Mint. No problems, no crashes. Thing is that, unlike MS history, the *nix world has a tradition of just working)

I also use Daphile as server only, because of the built in LMS, easy HDD expandability and small OS space requirements. Picoreplayer/Squeeboxes around the house as endpoints.

Logitech Media Server? (I see squeezeboxes mentioned too)

Oh, ok... thought you meant just file serving.

The Logitech stuff is easily installed on any [? I only tried a couple] other distribution, but hey, if it is there already, it's one less job.

Headless admin, easy installation (I have no experience deploying Linux) good features. I have not compared against other Linux but honestly seems quite daunting to set up and reach the level of ease of use I get from Daphile.

Purpose-built linux is good, if it is built for your purpose. LMS is good, so are other streaming systems that I hear of but haven't used. Yes, it is nice if it set up all ready for use.

Although I'm a once (feels like a long time ago) Unix pro, I started with Ubuntu, and more-or-less stuck with it, with KXStudio and Mint being Ubuntu-based. My background says that I ought to be able to handle something like Arch with comparative ease... but there is enough unease there that I stick with the easy to install/use.

I'm getting a dog-old quad core laptop to use as a dedicated LMS server. Keen to set it up with Linux (a first for me). Daphile should install and run fine on such a , right?

Depending on the laptop, there might not be driver support. If it's not some obscure workstation then I doubt it will be a problem.

You do need to hope there's ALSA drivers for whatever the heck you're using.

Most USB chips ( cmedia , Xmos ... ) are now well supported with a few exception. Google search and ALSA docs help to know what is well supported or not :) . Professional PCIe cards are another story. Digigram offers a good Linux Support for their soundcards . Forget Lynx and maybe RME.

Planning to wire up Daphile/LMS machine to to router to NAS so WLAN shouldnt come into it.

Aiming for a very light install ... going to be using Squeezeboxen and / or Wandboards as endpoints so no drivers needed, right?

I am using Daphile and wanted to setup the Hotspot feature. Has anyone found any WiFi adapters that work with this feature?

I connected lynx with the head of the Linux Driver Project to get them free drivers but they remain uninterested until later this year which is disappointing.

Not sure I am reading that right. Are you saying that they say that they could be interested later this year? That would be an improvement on their previous stance of no interest whatsoever.

    Anyway... Thanks for trying!
