@iRo, I own @shotgunshane 's old rockets, which he sold for less than the $250 retail, but having used them now I would pay full price if that is all that was available. For the scenario you describe I cannot recommend them highly enough. The sound is excellent, and the barrels are tiny. They are fully capable of being worn cable up or down. They are f'ing indestructible.

As for microphonics when worn cable down, just choke up the slider that keeps the R and L wires together so that it is close to the bottom of your jaw. The microphonics are not noticeable for me. If you are going to wear them cable-down for any extended period of activity, use the weird tri-tip ear-stay things, and they really keep the rockets in place. If you wear over the ear, there are no microphonics. If you wear them that way for extended period of activity, the weird hoop ear-stay things actually keep the rockets properly aligned. Hope that helps.

Great to know. My personal favorite IEM is Ety ER4SR and keen to try dynamic driver IEM hence ordered Rockets. I also ordered Trinity PM4 to try hybrid IEM. PM4 is getting lots of hype on HF recently. A few people reported that it has deepest & widest soundstage in IEM form. I should have both by end of next week.

@shotgunshane , Have you tried PM4 yet? Keen to hear your take on it if you are getting one. :)

I haven't heard any of the Trinity products. I think a member here is going to loan me one but I can't recall the model.

Great. I guess that newer model has improved sounds but still has their own house sounds. Keen to hear your impressions when it becomes available. :)

I'm not sure where to put this but I found this thread via the search function.

Let's talk 1More Dual and Triple-Driver (EO323 and E1001). It's getting quite some positive reviews and there is hardly anything to blame for the little money. Especially with the great build quality and packaging.

But I noticed something fuzzy sounding in the treble and also the mids are very unlike other BA receivers. I am thinking that maybe the dynamic driver is not linked with a crossover but plays the whole frequency range and the BA receivers are just put on top to 'fill the hole'.
It's just a theory that popped into my head. Any thoughts or even detailed insight?

I can't speak to those iems, but your theory is indeed a known way, possibly the best way, to handle a hybrid iem-- because it helps reduce audible disparity between the two driver types by fully or partially overlapping their ranges.

Iirc, the Sony z5 does it this way.

Same with the ASG-1+ (the DD & BAs run as full range speakers). Definitely helps with the cohesiveness.. and why it still has a place in my stable.

Not to hijack the thread, but what else remains in your stable? I always appreciate your recommendations.

Hi, I just posted a rough (from memory) comparison to the Andro on HF:
Oh, and I agree on the Vega regarding bass, I'd pick both the Andro and Profile 8 over it. And that's from someone who usually prefers DDs over BAs.

How was the hissing with the Noble x Massdrop X iems? Do you think a smartphone like the S7 or a laptop like the dell xps13 could run it without an dac+amp?

Got Aurisonic Rockets today and I have to say that I am impressed.... Such a tiny shell with large sound.. Smooth yet detailed... It instantly became one of my favorite and challenging my all time favorite, ER4SR.... Another IEM from @shotgunshane 's recommended list and fully satisfied with...

IMO the X is run just fine from the iPhone 7 dongle, so any smartphone should be fine. Laptops usually have higher output impedance in my experience but I actually think the X sounds even better with some added OI. It's subtle but noticeable.

I can't really answer on hiss. I've found others are much more sensitive to it than myself.

Just a few questions for whoever feels like answering them. Apologies if this has been covered before, but:

~> If I liked the W60, would the W80 be worth it?
~> How is the Oriolus? I hear there will be a mk2?
    ~> Opinions on KSE1500?
~> Opinions on EAMT-1? I've heard everything from "jaw dropping" to "veiled all over."

Keep in mind I tend to prefer more relaxed (but still tending toward neutral) signatures. Recessed mids are a deal breaker. Getting every last ounce of detail isn't a top priority for me. Same with super huge headstage. Speed, smoothness, lack of fatigue, and timbre are important.

I think Tom has heard the W80. I was told, not from him but someone else, the W80 is an incremental improvement over the W60. Relatively similar presentations/sound. He heard the EAMT-1 as veiled.

I've borrowed the Oriolus. I thought it was a mk2? At any rate it's really warm and smooth. Nothing offensive at all. While it's bass boosted it doesn't come across as pounding. It's not the fastest any any stretch but is faster than TG334 bass. Treble timbre is very good and weighty, again very smooth. It could use some more sparkle imo but a nice alternative if TG334 treble was too steely. I like to think of the Oriolus as the ultimate chill and relax iem. Marv heard and measured the same pair I borrowed.

Yeah, I spoke to Tom about the EAMT-1. I'm just trying to reconcile that fact that it's veiled with Tyll calling them jaw dropping. The usual hype storm is in full effect on head-fi, but much smaller in scale due to the outrageous price. I think one UK vendor in particular is distributing them, and he's been very active in that head-fi thread. So I'm feeling pretty divided about the whole thing.

I do love the idea of having an AMT driver for high frequencies. Also I'm fond of ceramic as a build material, and I believe the ceramic version is considered the top model of the EAMT-1 range.

The ceramic piezo driver of the Wn4 is a personal favorite of mine.

    @shotgunshane

Do you noticed any incoherency (bass and treble) in oriolus like marv said on his impression thread?

I thought the coherence was pretty good- that being the sound difference between the dynamic driver and balanced armatures. I've heard better and I've heard worse. I think the left and right driver matching was what was probably bothering Marv the most but just a guess on my part.

May I ask which hybrid IEM you heard was better?

Not better sounding but better coherence: Campfire Dorado has some of the best blended sound between dynamic driver and balanced armatures. However I do not think it sounds better than the Oriolus.

I have a pair of the Trinity Deltas that I acquired as part of the original Kickstarter. For what I paid (around $50), I think they are decent IEM. My caveat would be that I don't have much hearing over 12 KHz so treble that bothers some doesn't affect me. The tuning nozzles do have a noticeable affect on the sound and it can be fun experimenting. I settled on the neutral nozzles.

Trinity does seem to produce a decent hybrid IEM at a budget price. I would also enjoy hearing what others think of the Trinity offerings.
