I've given up entirely on tags (due to the album artist - track artists hooplah that somehow breaks every now and then, no matter how many times I change the tags.) and have stuck with folder browsing even on desktop.

I'm in the market for a new DAP to go with MD x Noble X or my ortofon e-q5. I had been using the HiSoundAudio RoCoo P. I am currently currently using my phone, an OnePlus 3, but it doesn't have enough free space for all the music I'd like to carry. I don't have any intentions of having too many FLAC files, the vast majority of my collection is 320kbps MP3. My requirements are as follows:
    • Matching well with the Massdrop x Noble X and ortofone e-q5, I have no intentions of trying to power anything but IEMs/earbuds through this
    • Accept microSD cards (I have a 128GB one sitting here)
    • Charging through micro USB or USB-C
    • Small form factor, something like the Fiio X1 gen 2 or smaller, I don't want to carry a brick
    • UI and creen for navigation of folders
    • 8-10 hours of play back time is more than enough
    • $250-300 USD I know, it's not much of a budget, but that's all I'm willing to spend.

What do you mean by stepping down on audio quality? From my RoCoo P or my phone?

I'm curious if anyone here has heard both the Sony ZX100 and the ZX2. I like my ZX100 a lot, but am curious as to what it gives up compared to the ZX2. I don't really have any complaints about the ZX100, so maybe I should just ignore the upgrade-itis.

Marv did. He compared them then bought the ZX2.

ZX100 with Andromeda was very much along the lines of ZX2. Same kind of sound with ZX2 being incrementally more refined and more resolving (a small difference really). I didn't have issues with hiss on ZX100 when I tried it out, but I can't totally attest to hiss because this seems so different for everybody. I almost ended up with the ZX100, but given that I was so far away from home and didn't have to pay US tax, I opted for the ZX2. Probably not worth upgrading unless you find a great deal on a ZX2. My last DAP was Sony X which I used for years. Be like me, once you get something good that you like, stick with it, and don't "upgrade" every six months.

Hello. I'm currently using Cowon Z2 with SD2. Mostly listening to Metal and female R&B.
I'm looking for an upgrade on both DAP and IEM. Aiming at Andromeda for now.
I'd like to get a DAP that's small in size and with the best sound quality it can deliver to Andromeda,
    Any recommendations please?
    I appreciate it lots.

After spending some time with iPhone + Mojo, I decided that the RFI & stack are too painful for enjoyable listening pleasure. My search narrowed down the options: Sony A17 & ZX2. I can snatch A17 for under $200 and ZX2 for $500ish. How much difference between these two?

I notice that Amazon UK aren't stocking the ZX2 themselves as of earlier this week, only third-party sellers.. not even an "out of stock". Is it being phased out?

(Their price on the W1MA, on the other hand, looks pretty keen.)

"Retail" is £1025 here, so that probably translates:

    https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/walkman/nw-wm1a

If Amazon US are similarly lower than Sony's slightly mad RRP, it should be closer to what you paid, I suspect.

Nope. Amazon.com is still at $1199.99 for the 1A's. Likely has to do with returns from the volume cap issue (which is now resolved with the hack). Cheers

Aye, there was an implied temporal thing that I totally failed to express there, "if Amazon US are similarly lower than Sony's slightly mad RRP, it should end up closer to what you paid" might have been better. It'd be a bit odd if it didn't.

Anyway, I'm glad that you got a nice price, and hope it comes through customs quickly for you...

(At today's exchange rate, 1025 GBP =1248.53 USD - so I guess we're still getting gently screwed on RRP here, if we paid it)

    Totally.

My 1A has arrived in Philly. Should (hopefully) clear customs and be delivered Monday. In the meantime I have the 1Z to keep me company. :)

    Cheers

True and good point. I checked and USPS is closed due to MLK Day, but UPS is not. Cheers

And right after I posted this I got a delivery email notice for Monday from UPS! So looks like I'll get the 1A tomorrow, but that the 2.5mm TRRS to 4.4mm TRRRS adapter will be delayed until Tuesday. No worries.

You're a crazy person. How's the Z treating you? I'd worry about the weight of the thing damaging the lining of jacket pockets, especially when charging up and down escalators etc..
