very different presentation. i enjoyed both, but what the ex1000 does is unique, whereas the z5's signature is more "common". for example the fostex/fitear Te100 is a more refined take on the z5 signature.

z5 and ex1000 require totally different pairings to sound their best, and even then the ex1000 will provide a more technically proficient listening experience.

Back to the topic, I find that the Final F7200 and Heaven VIII have amazing soundstage when paired with better sources. I had tried playing with vinyl, damn the soundstage is really out of my head. Gigantic!

Btw, the more I dig into EX1000 (paired with ZX2), the more I realized how much texture I missed in the music. Surprisingly, it is never hot (as far as I can remember) as in piercing treble. I used to hate EX1000 for the lack of bass punch, then I realized I was fed with too much fat mid bass hump. EX1000's portrayal on the bass is something mesmerizing. Drum is delicious! Like for example, Adele's Rumour has It.

You can eq the shit out of the ex1000 and it will hit hard and deep, if that's your thing. ;)
