Gungnir Multibit sized Yggdrasil would be awesome. Or an upgrade to the Gungnir Multibit.

Good lord. Ya'all keep your hands off your dicks and just wait until they announce something. No one wants to read about how wonderful it could be if they only... or how much they are waiting for it. it will be what it will be and it will be when it will be.

Do you think I will be able to send in my Bifrost Multibit to get it upgraded to this new thing like how the multi-bit upgrade was or will I have to buy a whole new unit?

Upgrade. That is the main point of his post. It is part of the value of having a Bifrost over a Modi.

While it's true that you would have spent an average of $240 per year on upgrading the Bifrost, Schiit stuff also fortunately/unfortunately (depending on who you ask) holds its value pretty decently in the secondary market. Meaning it's possible to just unload your stuff and still have a decent amount of cash from the sale.

So even if you bought (and sold) the new Modi model year after year for half of what you paid for, it still would have been much cheaper to do it that way than to pay the $240 to get your Bifrost updated (since Schiit is usually the only one that can do that directly). If my math is correct:

    Modi 1: $100
    Modi 2: Sell Modi 1 for $50, spend $100, net expenditure $150
    Modi 2U: Sell Modi 2 for $50, spend $150, net expenditure $250
    Modi M: Sell Modi 2U for $75, spend $250, net expenditure $425

Since a new Modi has come out roughly once a year (so far!), that's $425 over four years that you've spent, or just around $106 per year (plus shipping and stuff). And remember, that's saying you can only get rid of your Schiit for 50% off the year it becomes outdated; I still see Modi 2U fetching about $100 used on hifishark and the likes.

Even if we say that you couldn't find anybody willing to buy your Schiit for half off and ended up averaging $150 per year, that's still quite a bit of dosh over time compared to the Bifrost models. This of course means it's possible for you to just buy last year's Modi at a steep discount, whereas Bifrosts aren't generally available for sale, which further helps the secondary market for Modi's (and cheap ass students like me).

Modi isn't just a good deal, it's an absolute steal.

While what you are saying seems true, you are assuming the warranty, which is part of the retail price Schiit charges is not worth anything prior to secondhand sale. You also are not including the shipping charges that, you, the buyer, pays Schiit and depending on where you sell, the shipping charges you pay to sell your used gear. We like to buy and sell here because (I, knock on wood, have not been sold anything in less than excellent condition) we trust the system at SBAF.

I don't think gear churn makes more sense from a economics POV, however we all have this desire to hear other gear in our own systems which for most outweighs holding a Birost from the beginning.

Entirely fair counterpoints. I'm not sure how the shipping would work sending a Bifrost back to Schiit for upgrades from Canada, but if it's labeled as maintenance I don't THINK we'd get dinged taxes on it, but shipping in general adds up over time too. Headphonebar used to carry Schiit stuff, and had $0 shipping, which made it a fairly attractive option for buying stuff, but I don't see any Schiit in their inventory anymore (despite them being listed as authorized dealers on Schiit's website).

If I had the finances, I'd definitely prefer a new Bifrost, with the warranty and upgrades as needed. But as is I can just wait patiently for stuff off the used market anyways. Schiit stuff also seems pretty sturdy and well constructed, and I haven't seen many people having major issues with their Schtuff.

I agree with you, I was not offering counterpoints rather adding other things to consider. The other interesting thing is it seems Schiit will warranty their upgrade and re-warranty a secondhand whole unit when you have them upgrade it. I assume they factor this into their upgrade charges.

Ah, sorry if I was coming off as argumentative! Wasn't my intention, I was also agreeing with your points as well.

Also didn't know about the Schiit re-warranty stuff. Might look into some used Bifrosts in my area then.

You weren't being argumentative at all. I sometimes can come off this way both in person and here.

Maybe @schiit can clarify does out-of-warranty include not-original-owner upgrades?
    From Schiit website...
"For out-of-warranty Bifrosts, this re-activates the warranty on the complete product for 2 years. One caveat: Schiit may refuse to do upgrades on heavily modified products."

If you have us install the upgrade, it re-activates the warranty on out-of-warranty products, or provides an additional 2 years warranty if the product is past its original warranty period (to date, no upgradable DAC we make is past its original warranty period.)

    Pokemon Schiit.

Doesn't really have a ring to it. Sounds like something you would have to clean up. :)

What about the ones that only evolve when you trade them to a friend?
