    Greetings all.

I've been eyeballing the upcoming V30, rumors about it, etc. Obviously, the "quad dac" they slapped into the V20 was a big benefit to audio lovers. The V20 had an upgrade of ESS chips vs the V10, and it got me wondering if they could be doing another DAC upgrade in the V30. I'm not familiar enough with the ESS lineup to know if higher quality product SKUs are even possible (in a smartphone). Anyone in the know have any info on this?

While I like to see progress march onward, I'd still be satisfied with the same DAC as in the V20. It's a known quantity, I've heard it, and for the somewhat limited mobile listening I do, would more than satisfy. Thoughts?

    Thanks

Hopefully they don't have the bootloop issue that plagued other LG phones.

With the V20 and G6, it does appear that the bootloop problem is minimised. It's possible they get the 9218, it's possible ESS will release a new model with the V30 (like with the 9218, released with (or rather, for) the V20) instead.

LG needs to stop doing their strange-ass region varying SKU silly ritual, though!

Indeed. My V10 died an early death last week due to this.

Decided to go with the Pixel and start researching other DAPs. Real shame, because the convenience of using my phone for music on the go was very nice.

My g4 died, and due to a tiny crack above the screen, they would not replace mine.

Amen! The Korean / International / different model for each US carrier product line up bullshit needs to end. Make one or two SKUs, call it good. Oh, and gimme my DAC in the phone without forcing me to buy an international version that only kinda sorta works in the US. I'm looking at you G6...

My V10 going strong still, and I didn't see enough in the V20 to upgrade. The V30 is piquing my interest.

Seriously!!! Removing the Dac from the G6 was a horrid idea, oh well though. Honestly the second screen on the v20 is the biggest reason I use it. While the 9018 Dac Chip on the V20 makes it sound better than most big name phones, Apple/Samsung/Hawaii ect... it's not even on par with the Cayin N3' or Shanling M2s AK Dac-implementation, so really I use the second screen + Neutron with my GOv2+ for a super convenient portable set up. Though I guess I appreciate the analog output straight from my v20 the most in my modest car speakers... otherwise imo spending more for a phone with an "upgraded" dac is a littie silly. Here's to hoping the filter implementation in the 9218 can at least be on par with $150 DAPs

Also here's a screen Cap of the LG V30 Filter Settings, soon we will see how well it does!

Bummer! I just bought the g6 (quad dac) and I didn't know that the v30 was just behind the corner... :(

Every region gets the Quad Dac this time....finally.

The only regiondependent thing this time is for colours and storage size(128GB only in selected markets)

I need to get my s8+ repaired but it's probably going to be sold for either this or a Sony ZX1 compact as my second phone (I carry a pixel XL as well).

Let's see if this does alright with IEMs. The SABRE chips are notoriously difficult to work with and I was less than impressed with LG's previous efforts to the point where I'd recommend a Sony device or an iPhone over some of the previous phones with IEMs.

If it's like the v20, it only kicks on the extra juice for higher impedance headphones.

With the efficiency of the 835 I don't think it will be a huge issue. My OnePlus 5 was hitting between 5 to 7 hours screen on time, and that wasn't just web browsing, it was gaming as well.

It's going to depend entirely on what you're trying to drive with it.

Soooo...After the third time I've lost the signal in a day I returned the g6, pity though built quality was really good and I loved the sober design, but I won't consider lg any more as phone brand. Even the ui isn't as snappy as on the s7 or iphone 7 despite the hardware.

Spent a short while with the V30 at a launch event yesterday.

I’ve never played with an android phone before this, so the interface took some getting used to, but first impressions are pretty good.

Phone has no lag, display for the set I was using was faultless, the wide angle camera is great for my line of work. SQ, as touted, was decent, but not spectacular at least based on the kind of testing environment you get at these kinda events.

I could mention a whole lists of positives, but without proper comparison to other android phones, I’ll just say that nothing stood out to me that was bothersome.

I do feel that iOS users making their first jump to Android (like me) will struggle initially with adjustment. LG’s skin is purportedly on the heavy side and perhaps something like the Pixel 2 or a custom launcher (Nova Launcher?) might be closer to the minimalist iPhone experience.

It’s a weird time to be considering a smartphone purchase ATM, but if there aren’t significant shake ups over the next month or so I’m probably getting this as my iPhone 6 replacement.

Anyone else has any hands-on experience with the V30?

I own one since launch, haven't played with the camera yet. Somebody mentioned the battery drain using the quad DAC but I don't think the battery drain is that great even when I am streaming music to the phone.

One thing I am pleasantly surprised about is the signal, I get full bars now in places I used to have issues at times with my Galaxy S7 Edge.

The DAC sounds bright to me, but I haven't spent to much time messing with the EQ and filters. Perhaps burn in is needed to minimize it somehow. Once I understand the sound signature better I am going to start searching for some IEM's that are not to expensive to complement it.
