The secret is to make sure she doesn't see the Disney crap, or at least show her the more awesome stuff.

I'm freaking spoiling my kids with Legos the day I have some, more so than my father did me (he never had time to enjoy the builds tho, but mom did)... Thinly veiled selfish bid to spend money on them again of course. :p

I still buy like one a year around the holidays... 2-3 over the last few Christmas because my godson adores Lego and Star Wars, but getting him anything is a pain...

Twenty other family members are all probably getting him the same sets so we have to go thru my buddy (his dad) who keeps a gift list, and Legos sell out like crazy that time of year, heh, even online.

It's kind of amazing the empire Lego has built, a lot of companies could probably learn some manufacturing and QC lessons from Lego.

I bought the Ghostbusters caddy last Dec. :D Ashamed to admit I haven't sat down to build it tho.

Guys, what's with the plural here? is Legos taken to mean the things built, or the numerous pieces. Isn't it all Lego? Like Sheep?

    ...
Well. ok. all right, not much like sheep.

It's legos. No one in their right mind uses LEGO for the plural form. Don't care what TLG (The LEGO Group) says about this. The plural of LEGO is legos, at least in colloquial American English. Legos is how all American kids refer to the bricks. If TLG has a problem with this, they should stop selling to Americans, or mount a public advertising campaign educating us dumb Americans on the proper plural term for LEGO bricks.

My son is super into Legos. He really liked Duplo, and we finally bought the regular smaller bricks in a large brick box a couple of weeks ago.

790 bricks can't make as much as you'd think.

It's a blast making stuff with him and watching him come up with things on his own. He even came up with door handles himself after we built a jail for bad guys to go to.

I must admit that I've been waiting for the day that I felt he was old enough to handle regular Legos. He's 4 as of a few months ago.

I grew up with all sorts of fun creative construction systems: Lego, Construx, Omegles, Erector Sets, Lincoln Logs, Capsela, K'Nex, you name it.

I loved that crap. So did my brother.

My brother loved build things by the book. We'd each get a different set for Christmas. He'd make his in exacting detail, no matter how complex the build. I would take a look at what I had and make something completely different. It frustrated him off to no end that I'd always go off the rails.

He went on to become an architect. He works for a major firm in Colorado and designs things like buildings in Bill Koch's western town replica.

I went on to become a game designer. I work for Blizzard Entertainment as a senior game designer and am still known for my off-kilter ideas.

I credit creative toys for a lot. There's so much value in giving children the building blocks to use their imaginations in addition to premade toys.

My son has some superheros, trucks, cars, Transformers, etc. But, he has less of that stuff than all of his friends.

And you know what he does? He takes what he has and makes it the thing he wants it to be.

An old bulldozer used as a cake decoration on his second birthday doubles as Boulder the Transformer. No Lego bad guy? He built one and put it in jail. No puppy robot to match his Paw Patrol pups? He built a facsimile of a robot dog.

Hopefully I'm not wrecking my kid, but he sure seems to enjoy having no choice but to be creative with his toys.

I watched one day my buddy's very young daughter in a coloring book coloring various animals with various colors of polka dots and stripes. He's a mechanical engineer for Honda and sternly instructed the kid to (literally, not metaphorically) color inside the lines. I, an aspiring commercial artist, sat watching, biting my tongue.

Do any LEGO people have recommendations for a good bin with a lid for storage? My kids’ inventory of bricks fits in a shoebox now, but they are only 4 so it will grow. Looking for something with dividers for sorting.
