And while it is nice to see Sony trying to improve Android sound quality, odds are they did so to try to introduce another licensing fee. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but again? Yet another balanced connector? Yet another HDMI (even though DisplayPort is better)?

Just make your products sound good, and stop trying to hold the world hostage to licensing fees. If it sounds good, people may come. And please drop the fibinocci sequence grills and Canadian hardwood paper crap.

My engineer side has gotten so fed up with marketing BS.

 

My best ever purchase in audio was Sony HAP-Z1ES. Rock solid: one input: network, and XLR out. High quality DAC "directly attached" to 1T SSD. That's it. And it sounds so good. So I have a soft spot for Sony but the Sony headphones I tried, I would not buy them. Other stuff yes.

 

I may be jaded, but do you realize that while Sony was part of multiple standards consortium, they were not the only one present. Have you looked at the list of contributors to the standards? I get the belief they were some how the rock gods of audio and video, but has occurred that they were the weasels in the background looking to make a buck off others work?

Their products are okay, but they are always looking for ways to 'the one and only company', and I certainly don't think they are.

 

Sony is going full a r t i s a n with high quality, but strange-ass decisions and unique selling points.

Sort of like JVC, but with more quality. Thankfully for JVC I don't think most here bothered trying their triple dynamics.

 

They are going full on marketing BS because there are always suckers who will spend cash on talks about fibonacci sequence aligned gratings, and materials bought from relics from the old world, and throw in a few sentences about quantization aligned wiring, and endless other none-sense, and people will buy it.

It still sounds like crap.

 

When I thought the XB 700 was GOOD I actually wanted and longed for the JVC DX D1000, @gbeast has one still... and I SHOULD have taken him up on his offer to listen to it before he got the TH X00 [shame one me] but flagship super bassy headphones used to b what I dreamed of when I was in my first year at HF and this hobby as a whole

Something else that just occurred to me, is why would Jude choose to destroy the HF For Sale Forum? I've sold WAY more gear through there than ANY other site. Purchased equally as much there as well... I'm concerned that the choice to DELAY fixing it means they are looking for some way to implement... a profit revenue through it. Offer "premium" features to those who choose to either pay for it, leaving those who aren't willing to pay stuck using the current and shitty layout.

When I sold a big chunk of my collection last year it was VERY easy, the old Site was so easy to search and maneuver, since then I can't move a damn thing. Really worries me that HF isn't fixing that

 

If you've noticed how Jude handled the train-wreck of switching from Wikia to XenForo, it's easy to assume that he doesn't really care, one way or another. Also, the FS forum doesn't really help move manufacturers' or sponsors' stocks of wares. So I guess it's one of those: It'll get better when it gets better, if it gets better...

 

well the site was getting better EVERY day, they handled the improves after the disaster super well, I think your correct about the sponsors having an impact on what get's fixed when :/

After all the kerfuffle documented in this thread, I finally got a chance to listen to the Z1R today at a very noisy Sony store. Boomy bass and etchy treble...

So 2 days since Tyll posted his follow-up measurements, and as he hasn't posted a link Jude's I assume nothing has been forthcoming yet from that camp. Also nothing new in The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread.

 

Don't worry, he'll say something like "measurements don't matter, listen to the unique sound signature", even if he uses measurements to tell how good other headphones are and to dismiss others' opinions... double sided "sponsor gives me money so it's good" sword.

 

I had not seen the follow up measurements. So wait, Jude's pair were not Production headphones?!? That's weird, I don't think I saw any notes regarding this. Oh well. We will probably not see Jude's measurements after a month (possibly) so we could probably consider this as "closed"...
