Wow, it looks and sounds like a really nice gathering. I wish I had been there. My dad has a Russian Blue. I totally get (and really liked) the warp speed thing.

What you see here is the Blue exceeding warp factor 10, accelerating hard through trans-warp and can just see the after-effect of the ludicrous plaid-atious speed bubble.

I would agree it’s definitely “gone to plaid.”

This was my first LA social outing and it was nice to get out of the apartment and be someplace around people. Thanks to Marvey for hosting and to @Luckbad for loaning me some gear and letting me contribute. Thanks to every one who attended for letting me be a part of it.

That was a nice meet! It was cool hanging out with all of you. Thanks for Marv for hosting us in his home, and it was great to get to hear a bunch of things I'd never heard before, including the Focals, and a KISS HD650. I really have to do that mod to my 650s now.

E_schaaf has good taste in beer, neogeosnk's wife is an Overwatch prodigy and the word 'Movie' starts with an M not an N.

The Eikon's have nice bass also, but you already knew that.

^^^^so true. I learned more about this great community.

I didn't get to hear the Liquid Crimson nor did I get to listen to the top secret schiit gear. I did hear the Code-X LE and I liked it. It was a tad bit bright, but it was super clean, resolving, and provided beautiful slamming bass when needed. The "Code-Sex" on the other hand sounded very anemic in comparison. Not sure if it needed more power, but it was connected to a freaking power amp. I'm not sure if they're worth the trouble. I'd go with the Code-X myself.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for being semi-out of it. I had just come back from six mile hike with some friends in the morning, had a dinner event scheduled later that evening, and a long hike scheduled the next day on Sunday (Malibu Canyon to Simi Valley). A few of you guys left some scotch and boubon. I don't know if you forgot to take it back or if they were gifts. If the latter, than thank you! I don't think I listened to much; but the point of these meets for us to meet each other. It was nice to see familiar faces and new ones.

    P.S.

I know that a few of you wanted me to take some measurements - sorry for declining! If you are close by, I work in Sherman Oaks and often have lunch with @brencho in Studio City, so we can always meet up to exchange gear. I only need the gear for a day.

FWIW I also found the Code-Sex anemic on the power amps that were there. They sound very different in my chain at home, despite my ACA having less power than the present amps, with each being Class A. Certainly bassier and more dynamic than the LE when driven at home. Definitely mind-boggling. Maybe it has something to do with present amps not having time to warm up?

Regardless, yes, the Code-X LE sounded excellent on a variety of gear there, and it was definitely the more economic purchase given the cost of a second-hand 5LE is usually under 400.

I thought the Eikon at the meet sounded great, better than I remembered them sounding at RMAF / CanJam. Nice synergy with the Kenzie Encore out of the 32 ohm jack.

I personally found it difficult to do any critical listening, due to gear being close to the social space in the kitchen. The living areas on either side would've been better to cut down on background chatter, an oversight we made when deciding to plonk our gear on the dining table.

Being a previous owner of 5LE and 6 headphones, I would've like to have heard the subtleties of Luis' mods. In a less than ideal environment, they sounded similar to how I remembered them in stock form.

I tried the flagship ZMF headphone through a Kenzie amplifier, and it sounded bright and grating. Not sure who left that combo connected, but it wasn't an ideal pairing.

I thought Alex's PMX2 sounded good, and the Focal Utopia sounded the best. It's funny how leaky Focals are, you could hear what other people were listening to from across the room.

There was a Utopia there? I was happy for the chance to hear the LCD4 on the Liquid Crimson, The Clears and the Eikons as well as the Encore and the Aficionado.

I know there was other cool stuff on hand like PTS's M-22 and various cans that I didn't hear but I was happy to spend the afternoon chatting with the attendees.

    ^this

The front room was occupied by a Millennium Falcon undergoing repairs, and I don't think there was a table in the back room with Marv's horn/woofer setup.

The two to my left in the photo above were the worst "offenders" wrt sound leakage. I could hear Tom Sawyer louder from those Audezes than what I was listening to with the Clears. Conversation noise got very loud several times as well. But hey, it was primarily a social gathering, right?

As for impressions, I quite liked the Clears, except for a bit of hotness in the sibilance range that I'm pretty sure would have become fatiguing. This was probably made worse by having to listen at much higher volume than normal, but I expect a bit of foam or TP should take the edge off. I managed a rough AB with Marv's modded HD650s and can say with ~70% certainty that these are an upgrade with tighter, deeper bass and more air up top. Perhaps not as smooth in the mids and lower treble. Will have to submit an acquistion request to the CFO for these.

LCD-2C sounded tonally balanced with a reasonable amount of bass punch. I think these would be a pleasant phone to have around. Marv did mention the could be some variation as the other pair with vegan pads sound different, but I didn't hear them.

LCD-4 on the other hand were dark and had bloomy bass to me. Not sure what was going on so I'll leave it at that.

Brief listen to the Eikon and even though "closed" I couldn't really get a gauge on the sound due to ambient noise. But I didn't hear anything bad, and possibly a lot of good.

PMx2 sounded really transparent and smooth with very impactful bass.

That's all I can remember right now. Just got off the plane after a 14.5 hr flight and am a bit out of it. Again, really glad to meet you guys IRL. Time for a double espresso.

@PTS Don't think we were introduced. Are you in any of the photos?

Thanks everyone for a great meet, especially @Marvey for being a gracious host.
Quick impressions, the amp and sound encore really stood out to me as a well balanced not overly bloomy tube amp. It might have been the tubes but it had plenty of slam for the eikons and lcd 2c. @PTS the eikons sounded terrible out of the 600 ohm port (don't know why it was on there), switching to 32 ohms fixed a lot of the issues. Pmx2 sounds great as always. Didn't get a chance to listen to the Code stuff...

    Overall, a fun great meet!

Can't wait to see you all again

I agree: the Eikons I found to be surprisingly hard and bright sounding compared to my memory of them.

I'm glad you got a good helping of the Clears, bro! It was great to listen and hang out.

I heard the Eikons out of <redacted>, and they sounded fine to me.
