Sounds very good after some burn in. very good value. sound is fast. tonality if of course bright but with no toe in, Im able to have a flat response from 50hz up to 10khz. toe'ing the speakers to face the listener results in a rising response so id recommend listening off axis with no toe in at all and even some toe out depending on the listening position.

    ridiculous value for money

His vampirism is showing! Observe no reflections in the mirror! You may have thought the picture of a nun was enough to confuse us but you have now shown your true colours!

Probably his bedroom rig. Still, Harbeth SHLs on stools...?

yes, shl5plus on stools. I decouple, via sorbothane hemisphere using the right weight, the speakers from the stands (which most people should do (very few cases give advantage to coupling)), therefore, the stands have absolutely no effect to the sound. Ive tested many different stands and when the speakers are decoupled from the stands, the stands seem to have no "sound" of its own.

this is my listening room. I realized that I hated using a chair or sofa and stand straight while my listening sessions. I decided to use a bed, much more comfy and even improve the room via absorbing the floor early reflection. this room sound and measure very flat at the listening position. very happy with my LP measurements.

Nice! Are these based on Fostex plans or someone else? Like Nagaoka?

As bachelor like as this setup appears I think it probably has a lot of acoustic advantages. You are not going to have a lot of reflections from the bed.

I've seen these drivers before in Frugo-o-phile horns (Frugal Horns). Pretty neat stuff actually.

The cabinet are the recommended folded horns from fostex.
plans here at madisound. you can see pictures at the end of the page

yes, my room is great acoustically. I have a FRZ (free reflective zone) meaning I have appropriate acoustic panels at the side walls, ceiling, behind the listening position and floor (the bed act as a quite decent panel but I also have a panel under the bed). The addition of a FRZ truly is a eye opener. the imaging becomes pin point, the sound become more relaxed yet much more accurate. Ive let secondary reflections loose, but treating the early reflections bring many improvements!

The fostex are my fathers, im really unsure about selling my shl5plus. I love them. if someone meet my price yes I'll sell them. might try to shoot for 40.1.
I should probably stop here and enjoy my setup as is. but Im tempted to go to big woofers. I also been buying my drivers to start the building of a big 3 way hi efficiency. This speaker will be in a 200L cabinet and will be about 95db efficiency. I'll be using the 15inch eminence omega pro15, the audax pr170mo mids and hivi rt2h ribbons. all passive first order crossover. this system will cost me about 1k cad to build. if the end result doesnt meet my taste, ill simply go back to shl5plus or 40.1.
