I need another set of speakers like I need another set of headphones. So I guess you know I need them but not really.

Like many of us I can't help but look and ask when I see them.

So today I chat up the owner of these JBL's and asked if he ever uses them much anymore and like many people the answer was no. So of course I asked. And he said quite possibly as he was moving and they didn't fit into their plans.

Even though I'm more of a British speaker tubey kind of guy I couldn't resist the thrill of the pursuit.

He got them off a buddy that had them in his bar back in the day. (research sets them at 1979) no doubt I will have to recap and likely refoam. I offered $500 bucks ($400 USD). Got a Hafler 500 to hook them up to and he has a Luxman preamp that he will unload that might pair well. I need another amplifier about as bad as I need another set of headphones so WTH.... :) Cabinets are 7/10 and could be brought up to 9/10 with very little effort.

Do you think I will be able to stand the pseudo horns or should I shake off the urge and remind myself that I already have 4 sets of speakers. Thought I might like them for some punchy loud music in the garage. Maybe just fix and flip. Whatdayathink? Pass them up or pick them up?

Grab them! Even if you don't like them most likely all old JBL speakers will only increase in value in the next few years because of their new classic line and being in vogue

4-way JBL for $400?! Instabuy! You can't even find L112s for that price

Of course the most important part is if you like them. Listen to them for a bit before commiting to a purchase. You mentioned you are a tube guy? JBLs like these are really sensitive and should work well with tube amps, especially if you bi-amp.

When researching this I think I saw a thread on another forum about your experience.
