Just as expected desperately hoped for, record is as flat as a pancake, and as quiet as any I own, and I mean zero surface noise. If I were writing for 6 Moons I'd write that "the music emerges from a pitch black background". Lots of air around the instruments in a wide soundstage. Just beautifully mastered. Good job Bernie! Recording is from 1965, so Ornette is playing with David Izenzon and Charles Moffett bass/percussion. I see that 'Part 1' from 2016 RSD is readily available new at Discogs (for a lot less than I paid today!), Bernie and Pallas again, so I guess I'll go completist.

The Jason Isbell EP is from his early days after splitting from getting kicked out of Drive By Truckers. Also quiet and flat-yay! I'm a huge J. Isbell fan so I was going to buy this even if JI recommends against it (https://www.rollingstone.com/country/news/jason-isbell-dont-buy-my-record-store-day-ep-w517730) but that might have more to do with royalties than music, because it's well recorded with an eclectic mix of, admittedly, mostly down-tempo songs. If you're an alt-country/americana fan I think you'll like it. At least I do!

There were a few things at my store not listed on the main RSD page. I impulse bought a Dio 1986 live record, and Wowowow is it bad! Hahaha what are you gonna do.

Man, I didn’t find Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn Mono vinyl...that’s one I really wanted! If anyone sees one at their local store, please let me know. I’d gladly pay you for a copy.

They shouldn’t have made this a RSD exclusive. It could have been made a RSD first release...and followed up with a regular release.

Damn thing was sold out in every Record Store I called in Orange County.

I took my chance this morning at Rhino Records in Clairemont. Every year I go there for RSD and come back with everything I want....always!

    Not this time.

Check the discogs.com marketplace for any releases you may have missed. A lot of stores have listed their overstock there.

I finally found a record store here yesterday but I didn’t notice any ads about RSD.
    Nice selection!

I participated digitally by ordering leftovers online since my local stores didn’t carry the records I wanted.

    Anyways, I picked up

Hi all. I posted my RSD 2018 video. I start with a bit of a price rant (grrr) and then get on to the records....

Nice vid, thanks for actually playing little bits of the album's makes it alot more informative.
In regards to the sound quality of the Ben Keller it might be because it's pressed on white vinyl. This may sound a bit bonkers but I swear all my white vinyl records are the worse sounding. I now try and stay away from coloured vinyl but overall was quite happy with the rsd pressings and this is also very sad but I was impressed by the quality of the inner sleeves on alot of them. They had soft antistatic plastic which I always see as a bonus :p

Think this year was the busiest i've ever seen it, which is great but god knows what it is going to be like next year!

Yeah RSD is getting busier and busier. I saw that people were queuing outside Amoeba in LA from 3pm the previous day! Agreed on coloured vinyl, I definitely prefer regular black. The pressing plant has a big impact on the quality of the final sound as well though. I'd take a coloured record from Pallas or RTI over a regular one from United or GZ, that's for sure.

I'm frequently ranting about paper inner sleeves in my videos :)

Cool I never thought of that. Unfortunately the only 2 US store that area selling Piper appear to be gouging so oh well. I will just have to find a nice older pressing no big deal.

No RTJ either, does anyone know what that was going for originally?
