As a general rule, and a specific rule in these parts, you don't sell for more than what you paid. Perceived value aside, its not good business to profit on used gear.

Ok, Ill keep that in mind when selling here. Low prices are always good.

Weird though, I really cant find out any information about the speakers.

Back to the speakers, right nowthey are my main speakers, so not selling yet. Just wondering what they were worth for the future if I upgrade.
They are really pretty though, as you can see in the linked review I made

Actually, I think it's the definition of good business, bad karma maybe?

    Hi all!

I currently own HD650s and the first gen M/M stack, I've been fairly happy with the setup but I'm looking to take it further. I know the HD650s have a lot to offer!

My first upgrade will be the amp, I'm looking to spend around £300 (obviously I'm in the UK so local retailers preferred). DAC upgrade will come eventually but not in the near future.

I also have a pair of TH-X00 Ebonies on the way, so the amp will have to be a good match with that too.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Thanks for the recommendation.

The Valhalla 2 is all I seem to see recomended for an entry level tube amp paired with HD650s.

I wouldn't hesitate if those were the only headphones I owned. Any idea how it pairs with the TH-X00?

I have the TH-X00 and it pairs nicely (depending on tubes). I'm sure you can dig up my initial review of the TH-X00 (listening on stock Valhalla 2 tubes) and I really didn't enjoy it. I thought it was too hot in the treble.

I eventually "upgraded" to the 6DJ8 Amperex Orange Globes and the TH-X00 sounds marvelous (and so does the HD580).

Thanks. The Valhalla 2 is definitely top of my list. I'm still open to suggestions though.

Are there any SS amps that would pair nicely? Just want to make sure I review all options.

Hmmm... probably not. I'll definitely keep an eye out though. Thank you.

I was commanded to post this question here:

I'm newer to the headphone scene and I think I trust what I'll hear more hear than at HF. I want to buy a $200 or less amp in the next few months to power my k7xx. I will be moving to Asia in about 1.5 years so I don't want to completely sell and rebuy something in 220v. Seems like Schiit is a good choice since you can just change the wall wart. For this particular headphone Magni 2 or Vali 2? What about Project Starlight? Does it have a similar wall wart setup that can be changed out to 220v or would that require an internal change? Any other ideas that fit my needs? I may buy a Modi 2 as my DAC at some point but right now I'm focusing on the amp. I did try searching for my particular needs but couldn't fine anything regarding the dual-voltage need. Thanks!

Something with a wall wart seems like the way to go, the schiit minis are a great option, as are the garage 1217 options (all garage 1217 amps run from wall warts, and I don't think they need jumper changes depending on region). Also consider battery powered offerings, like the leckerton UHA-6S mkii; these are $300 new from leckerton, but go for closer to $200 on the used market. A big benefit for portables is, in addition to size and general usability, you can charge from just a usb cable with no need to worry about wall warts, international voltages, or plugs types.

The good news is the k7xx is a pretty easy to drive headphone (high sensitivity and reasonably low impedence). It will mate fine with a solid state or tube amp, it really depends on how adventurous you are feeling (note: tubes are not scary, and I personally recommend people try them sooner than later, to avoid fear of tubes with bigger/better amps if you get the hankering later). Consider reading up on the vali2 thread, it is well regarded in these parts, and there are a lot of different experiences from a lot of different users.

Thanks a lot for all the input! I'm not at all scared of jumping into tubes or anything else technical. I previously have had a tube bass amp years back that I even did some tube-rolling on. I had actually thought about the Leckerton. It would be the easiest solution for both transporting and switching to a 220v situation. How does the sound compare to the less mobile budget solid states such as the Magni 2? I assume the Vali 2 and the Garage 1217 are whole different experiences from both of those. Glad to hear that the 1217's also use wall warts that can be converted to 220v so there's another option.

How's the battery life on the Leckerton?

Rated 30hr amp-only, or 10hr with the dac/amp. I'm looking to sell mine for $190 if you're interested. Do note that it does have the low-gain mod though, which can probably be reversed if you send it back to Leckerton. However for full sized headphones, the magni 2 uber was better when I had it. By logical reasoning, the Vali 2 would probably also be better than the Leck as well.
