I would say Mojo treble is tame but rolled off too soon. Never harsh. Grain, maybe, but it is quite difficult to scrutinize Mojo treble because it is so recessed compared to its bass. Nevertheless, I thought Mojo treble was fine, until I own Momby. I didn't even need to A/B to notice the difference.

Anyway, I really really counting on Jotun to be a more musical version of Valhalla 2 while retaining the qualities.

It seems that most of the guys won't notice sigma delta harshness and thought these DACs sounded alright. That's until they get an opportunity to listen* to a good r2r dac.

*It's like the first time you discover you can shoot out white "mojo" from your little dude. :D

It's chord treble. The grain results in a lack of detail at the top end.

Does 'Chord treble' affect DAVE as well?

By many accounts, no. The portable shit seems most afflicted. Just tried optical tonight into Mojo, with an expensive toslink cable, it's not that bad. But Gungnir Multibit kills it, as it should. Moby might be an interesting comparison.

I am unsure. It was a problem on my Chordette, it was there on my QB76 (probably the least troubled of the Chord DACs I've heard), it was there on my QuteHD, it was there on the Hugo I auditioned for a week, and it's an issue on this Mojo.

Send me a modi multibit and I'll tell you.

I need a "this made me throw up" button. The "dislike" button is not sufficient.

So, mine's on the way, but while I wait. Any SE / balanced output comparisons? I've seen a couple quick comments in various places that they're quite similar, but more confirmation would be nice.

Will probably end up going balanced for HD600 and HD800S, but it would be nice if I don't need to immediately.

I don't have Jotun. Actually I worry more about SE power compared to BAL. I believe we will see more impressions after today minimeet.

Has anyone done a direct comparison between Jotenheim and Mjolnir? I have a Mjolnir 1 and am currently saving up for a Jotenheim. I was wondering how they compare when powering the Paradox Slants.

Might want to ask in the general advice thread or the Jotunheim amp thread.

It is with a heavy heart -- and a clear conscious -- that I must report that I've returned the Jotunheim.

Simply put -- my Ragnarok outperforms it handily. With my HE-6 the Jotunheim just doesn't have the heft; the HE-6 was flat / 2-dimensional compared to its performance on the Ragnarok. At first I thought the Jotunheim was doing well with the TH900, but side-to-side comparisons revealed that I couldn't hear a difference that was significant enough to overcome short term audio memory. Possibly another low quality Schiit summed SE output is compromising quality equally?

Was the quality difference worth the additional $1,300? Hard to say as I might not know how good the HE-6 can sound. To me it was worth keeping the Ragnarok and returning the Jotunheim. But I can see how it could be a great value proposition in a mid-fi system similar to what most posters on this thread are testing with.

Not to derail this thread, but, and this is addressed to @GUTB, testing quite a few headphone amps with the HE 6 will result in the return of those amps... I suggest you contact @ohhgourami to maximize your enjoyment with the HE 6.

Jesus f'ing Christ, how many times do we have to tell you that the Jotunheim does not sum the SE output?

Can we please ban this asshole?

Those comments would have been fine without the snide last sentences of both paragraphs.

I am pleased to announce that I am the proud owner of a @GUTB approved mid-fi system!
And to think I was initially excited that @Marvey called the Moby/Jotunheim/HD650-XLR a $1000 game-over system. Now that GUTB has solemnly declared his opinion, I sit and wonder at how amazing his high-end system must sound and I hang my head in shame.

In all seriousness, I do wonder if he is the first person to return the Jotunheim in the 15-day trial window.

Bollocks! My wife's going to be well pissed off when I tell her this £12k stack of heapdhone gizmos in my office is only mid-fi after all. No way will she give me permission to spend yet more on a GUTB approved system. SIgh.

Seriously mate, I've given you the benefit of the doubt so far, and everyone's welcome to have an opinion here (you don't have to toe the party line). But... a) THE JOTENHEIM DOES NOT HAVE A SUMMED SE OUPUT, and b) you're just being a dick now.

I returned mine as well, but didn't see the need to make a big deal about it. I just decided that since I wasn't going to go balanced any time soon that I'm going to stick with my Asgard 2.
