Maybe I'm wrong but it seems we miss that important part in the opening Post. We're all responsible of noise and a lot of people here should learn to NOT post in every thread when they have nothing special or useful to bring to the thread. Focusing on randos is half of the problem.

I find that today's state of headphone industry to be very similar to the current state of video gaming industry, another hobby of mine that I followed very closely. Just like headphone industry, which you found that there is subjectivist (Head-fi), objectivist (NWAVguy and to some extent, r/headphones), and something in the middle, or as SBAF would like to call it, "too objective for subjectivists; too subjective for objectivists. Likewise in the video gaming industry, it has objectivits (those cranky "No Fun Allowed" Giant Bombers), subjectivists (the rest of the columns, Gamespot, Polygon, you name it), and something in the middle (NeoGAF)

It's interesting to see that day by day, SBAF is going to be more like NeoGAF

Not even f'ing close. As much as I like NeoGAF the culture and focus of this place are completely different. Your analogue is way off base. Keep speculating on the internets, though.

I agree that NeoGAF is a little bit too far, and I don't think I want this place to be like that either. All I said that SBAF is going to be more like NeoGAF, but I hate it if SBAF is going to be 100% like it. I apologize for not explaining my thoughts clearly.

Just because things rhyme, it doesn't mean they're the same- outside of pop music.

I thought the series "Enterprise" pretty much covered why. The Vulcans can be too Romulan, from time to time...

Forgive my ignorance. What is the vision for SBAF? What is a quality interaction and purpose? What is the mission statement?

As a new person, I apparently stepped into some hot water on one of the threads and I didn't fully understand why. I mean I understood some of it, and I take responsibility for that, but even still I felt my reception was not in line with what I was trying to convey. Nobody uses their real name or their real picture and I think this kind of anonymity makes for a courser interaction; people are not as disciplined.

Cutting off new registrations, even temporarily, IMHO is not the answer because "the problem" is perhaps a lack of publishing of a clear vision. A clear vision is more powerful than a bunch of rules. Just my 2 cents.

If anyone thinks I've over-stepped by being a new person with an opinion, please contact me via email at: [email protected]
We will work it out in private-- please not here in this forum. Also, as a contributing new member, cutting off new people is cutting off the flow..........

Are you for real? Every single sentence of your post demonstrates exactly why new registrations were suspended.

Do you walk into an IRL club and interrupt and say, "k everbody, get me up to speed now"?

The evolution of the original irreverent and irrelevant and non-authoritative site for headphone measurements, i.e. frequency response graphs, CSD waterfall plots, subjective gear reviews. Too objective for subjectivists; too subjective for objectivsts.

Someone might care enough to email you privately for further discussion, but I'm not sure who that'd be.

I know very little about those gaming sites but I gather that a lot more sweat equity is going into building a real community here at SBAF than you would see at those other places. While this place may have been born out of a desire to to have an alternative to HF and/or Reddit I don't think there is any desire for SBAF to represent the "middle ground" of anything. Perhaps the "too objective for subjectivists" and too "subjective for objectivists" is a bit of a red herring.... and its really about not identifying with a certain dogma or point of view but instead to evolve in the hobby and form your own opinions based on learning a thing or two from senior members while experimenting on your own. Better stated... you won't last long here if you identify with one or the other!

Nobody should email @SHAWN P. WATSON privately. This is precisely the kind of thread for discussing this kind of thing openly, if you want to discuss it at all.
Using usernames doesn't mean people don't take responsibility--all the old timers own up to what they say by sticking around.
Culture doesn't need a vision. If there is a vision, it can be a goal for culture, but culture will develop regardless. Stick around and observe.

The "clear vision" is the corpus of this forum. Read a lot of the recent active threads. When you do post, don't just ask for people to give you info. Respond with your real life experiences. Link people to other helpful posts. I have been here since Changstar days but when I joined Changstar I read a lot and posted very very sparingly. Over time it was clear my posts were signal rather than noise. Then I felt more comfortable chiming in because I knew what was seen as a positive contribution and not what was seen as clutter, filler, timewasters (since you are coming from Head-fi, probably 80% of Head-fi posts fall into this category).
Sadly it is harder to get a feel for what SBAF is because of the noise and new members coming in with either e-peen "I am Mr. Important, bow down" or the Head-fi attitude of posting speculatively about every little thing that comes to mind. You can be honest, and be yourself, but if this was an IRL group it would be wise to go the first meeting and just listen, right? So do that. If you have a question, use the search.

No, the problem is people don't read and want to talk without listening. I'm not trying to pick on you individually, but how hard is it to observe? Look around - look at people with friend status - look at people with lots of "Likes received." If someone has hundreds of likes and almost no dislikes, maybe they're doing it right by our community's standards. If someone has very few likes and as many dislikes, that means people do not appreciate how they go about their posting. Click the profiles of some of those people who seem to be doing it right and read their posts, or the threads they've created.

FWIW like him or not, I feel @SHAWN P. WATSON is making a decent effort of being decent. Struggling, maybe, but trying. That counts for something in my book.

It counts for less in mine, because... well, not to be cynical, but this is a pattern I've seen play out a lot: Someone is told not to shit on the floor, and they respond with post after multi-paragraph post explaining how the floor looked so shittable, and they're very sorry, but where exactly should they shit if not on the floor, just want to really get these questions addressed, maybe there should be signs up telling you where to shit so that people would know about the floor being off-limits.

Maybe like one time in a hundred will that person turn out to ever have anything worth saying, even if they do stop shitting on the floor.

It's easy to become cynical especially when it seems like the same pattern plays out again and again. I don't think there's an answer except to remain aware of our frame of mind when posting. It's easy for me to drop the hammer on a seeming dumb ass post on aFriday night after a shitty week, but then it's about me and less about SBAF.
    EDIT:
@SHAWN P. WATSON. We've been blitzed by trolls recently. Please step up. I promise you that everything you have asked is already here, you just need to look.
