The Vangelis soundtrack from Blade Runner is pure poetry. You can easily meditate to this.

Interstellar - Mountains. About as epic as it gets.

Also - making of the Interstellar soundtrack. Most of it was live recorded. Pretty spectacular:

I sometimes like to listen to COLPO ROVENTE . It's out on the Korean BEATBALL not long ago, before that nut jobs used ancient vinyl.

Every single Wes Anderson movie has a great soundtrack. It's a mix of original compositions (usually Mark Mothersbaugh) and some pretty good pop songs, typically from the 60's/70's.

The movie Akira has a great soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi. In fact I think the director placed enough importance on the soundtrack that he wanted it composed first and then animated scenes afterwards to make sure that they integrated well. This is amongst many reasons why I have zero confidence in a successful live action US remake of the film.

Film soundtracks have provided my entry into classical music.

    My two favorites:

@Skyline , Red Violin - amazing and unique film.

I've always found this piece gut-wrenching in its desperation...

Ennio Morricone has written some great soundtracks. I especially love the music from The Mission (for which he won an Oscar) and from Once Upon a Time in America. For some reason the soundtrack for Once Upon a Time was not submitted that year for Oscar consideration, but if it had it would have undoubtedly won.

Other faves include John Barry's soundtracks for Dances with Wolves and for Out of Africa.

Mercurio's Sound of Light from the silent film St. Joan of Arc. There's a really cool story about the recovery of the film footage for this movie too.

    Also...

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
Anything all all by Ennio Morricone; I have The good the Bad and the Ugly, as well as A Fistful of Dollars
    Hero
    by Tan Dun
The Road by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis
    I like Tron, too.

One of the greatest soundtracks, amazing blend of narration, non-original and original music.

Big fan on Alan Silvestri here. ;)
I could wholeheartedly recommend his work, namely these albums:
    • Contact (1997)
    • Aliens (1985)
    • Predator, Predator 2 (1987, 1990)
    • Space time odyssey (?)
    • The Edge (1994)
    • Judge Dredd (1995)
