It’s an assignment for school, but we were given 8 data sets, each spanning 24 hours and we have to show relative differences between them throughout the day in one graph.

I’m taking a data analysis and decision making class for my MBA. We are using Excel mainly but encouraged to use JMP and Tableau for projects. Yeah, it is hard.

Yeah, this is just a technical communication course, but for this one assignment were just making two graphs, but especially for this first one, theres no correct answer really, its just about choosing which compromises you prefer, theres no clean way to present the data

I second @jexby's suggestion. In my experience, it is really hard to make anything like that look good in Excel. Python + matplotlib is pretty easy to use if you're familiar with Matlab. As an added bonus, the LaTeX integration is even better. Or if you're hardcore, use TikZ in LaTeX. There is no substitute for vector graphics!

I use R myself, both the base graphics and ggplot package depending on whichever is more suited for the task at hand. It's a command-line based program, so it has a bit of a learning curve, but I haven't gone back to excel ever since cos the graphs just look that much better (and less of a headache to interpret).

R Studio is the best IDE to come along pre setup with any language, shame I really hate R, even if I know how to use it.
