Huh. You'd think the owner'd find an excuse to keep something like that playing 24/7, no? Then again, maybe they're hooked up to something with tubes and the owner doesn't wanna burn through em that quickly?
I doubt tubes have enough power for this unless he got Bob Carver monoblocs. Honestly I think the guy is not an audiophile but just had money to burn and got this for status. It seems like his setup is far from optimal for omnidirectional speakers since they are against the wall. Then again, they also might integrate better with the room.
Ach, that's a shame. Kinda like finding a Montblanc Patron series pen (or hell, a Montegrappa Diamante) in the pocket of some CEO with more money than actual love for pens?
Well, maybe you could twig them onto the audio hobby, show them how much better things can sound :))
It’s called having a wife. Or maybe just wanting to watch some low key TV without making life difficult. I’d rock a sound bar - I don’t really watch movies and get in maybe an hour of TV a week.
@Vansen - Normally you would be correct. But the TV was in the same room as the speakers so I don't think the WAF holds. While I don't think he needs to have a megabuck system with his TV, I would expect some bookshelf speakers over a soundbar if you are the type of audiophile that cares enough to have a +$100,000 system.
I used to occasionally plug my TV into the hifi. Just headphone-out, which was all that was available then, and IIRC it was mono. But only for occasional stuff like classical music. One house later, the TV wasn't in the same room.
Now, I don't have a TV (or a proper, working hifi, for that mater!).
TV will be used by partner, kids, etc when "Mr or Mrs audiophile" is not around. No way that they'll be able to hook up and use the speakers judging by my own experience.
Many of the world's hifi systems, even those with expensive components, get used by other family members. Young audiophiles these days have mothers and grandmothers who used hifi systems. To many of them, even putting on a record would have been routine.
