Now you just have to watch out the triple flange doesn't come off in there. I'm pretty sure the next time I sheepishly hand my wife a pair of tweezers she is going to throw my ety's away.

Are you tempted to try the XR, too?

Ety grey triple flanges have always been my favorite. Tried both the Ety and Comply foamies over the years, but always return to the standard grey triples. They are easier to keep sanitary too.

I think they, and the filters, need to be replaced more than we think though. I've only had problems with the tips not staying on well after the rubber stretches out from heat and use.

@imackler re: trying the XR.. I'm not particularly interested since I don't think the bass boost is all that significant. Also, some impressions over at HF state that overall clarity does take a small (very small, perhaps) with the bass boost.

@zonto I dig the 3 flange after lightly coating it with some mineral oil and using it a few times to get the tips 'broken in' a bit (they're super tacky/grippy right out the box). The other key, for me at least, to getting a good fit with the 3flange is to *slowly* insert them in my ears.

After so many years of trying Ety, I'll be surprised if you don't find the bass lacking on some tracks, w the er4s. Its been the Achilles heel to me, though I've yet to hear the XS.

I haven't heard the ER4S.. but from reading lots of impressions (and more recently, comparisons to the SR), I get the sense the real improvement in the SR (over the S) is a flatter, smoother midrange-through-treble. I've heard the 4S is unabashedly on the bright side of neutral.. the SR sounds less so, I'd think.. it's almost mid-centric, to a degree, actually.

Treble is still ultra-clear, resolving, and present.. but it doesn't feel like the hallmark of the signature. I actually think the SR signature is closer to the UERM (when driven from a clean amp with <=1 ohm OI) than the 4S probably is.

Yep.. That's informative and helpful to get that deep fit. I typically tug at the back of my ear (vs the top as the video indicates).

Have you heard the Savanna, FlySweep? You've got me tempted w/ the ER4SR...

I haven't. I was quite interested in them. I had a Heir Audio 4S (back before they turned into Noble) and enjoyed it (though the 4K dip made a lot of stuff in the presence region sound a but dull). @Kunlun had good things to say about the Savanna.. more of a jack of all trades, but master of none.. which seems pretty typical with most 4-BA driver, neutral-tuned monitors these days.

Ultimately, I opted to go with the Empire Ears Spartan IV. I've had a lot of EW/EE phones (Supra II, Legend/Remastered/Omega) and enjoyed them for the most part.. I'm hoping the Spartan will be the most neutral of the bunch.
