I have a 2CP-2511, 50K, I can sell for cheap. I don't like how it sounds. Very pillowy and soft despite otherwise being very good. I have a couple Tocos Cosmos that I quite like, and they're decently matched. They are slightly warm, very spacious, but can be slightly dry (good for wet tube amps).
Otherwise I would recommend the cheap-o, $12, 21-step mini attenuators on eBay (search DACT type), though guys like Marv will argue they add too many components in the path. I think they sound great. Preferred pot so far. Some also hate the steps and prefer inifite values on pots.
Thanks mate. Question...the current pot is 50K. If I were to replace it with, say, a 100K pot....would that in effect decrease the overall gain of the amp?
That should not affect gain. I would stick to the original value if you can incase the circuit has a specific design reason for it (but usually you can get away with different values, AFAIK).
Ok thanks. Could really do with lowering the gain as well. Perhaps a couple of inline resistors around the pot. A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous in my case :-). I'm chatting with my tame electronics geek here & will see what'll suit best. Cheers.
I can order whatever you want from the catalogue. Just let me know what you want. I see you are in the U.K. so shipping shouldn't be too much from France. Although you might be better served by Hands.
Oh, you needed a 4-gang pot? If you have the cash, I'd recommend the Goldpoint. They even have a guide on how to wire resistors to it to give you more fine-tuned range on the attenuator if it gets too loud too fast.
