Very 'digital' sounding, with lean, hyped attack and fake news...I mean fake detail? I have the MCA 2000 remaster 088 112 055-2, and it needs a really warm playback chain to sound decent.
All of my best CDs were stolen in a burglary in 2016 so I can't say the exact release. (Only had a fraction ripped to FLAC.) My 80s MCA sounded natural. It had a "plaid" back cover. (There are several MCA masterings from the 80s. Probably all more natural than the 2000.)
Having ripped all my CDs lately, I had to replace a couple of genuinely un-rippable ones, and learned the hard way about looking out in case you accidentally buy sneaky modern "remastered" copies.
I ended up hitting ebay to get specific editions issued in the 80s/90s before the brickwall compression and v-shaped EQ craze. You are not alone, Garns. It sucks the life out of the music.
