And don't forget to check that all of your: Basement & Crawl-space Sump-Pumps w/ Irrigation Pipes... aren't clogged & working properly!
I had my Crawl flooded almost completely cause I didn't have a backup Pump nor a Flush-Back Valve (which is to stop the water from seeping back in & into the Pump when it starts flooding outside) Now I got 3 Pumps & UPS battery & perimeter irrigation that all route to a Storm Drain.
Yep, @Cspirou is right. The soil and water table here in east Texas is not conducive to basements. As a result, our hot water heaters and furnaces are in the attic.
I only just read about Harvey. Wishing everyone in that part of the world well.
Worst part of the deal seems to be that it is forecast to cross the coast and then hang around.
Oh I see, much different up here. I'm in Chicago Burbs. Don't have a Furnace/Boiler, nor any Gas-lines to my house at all; since everything is 100% electric (unfortunately). So we have to pay way too much $ for the ComEd bills.
Got a 20kW HVAC = first floor & 15kW A\C = outside.
After we had severe flooding & major water damage to Crawl (only Sump-Pump gave out & power cut-off) We had to redo everything down there.
