All data and even the machine learning bits are stored locally on the device. In terms of intrusiveness it's surprisingly low key. It can only sync to the phone you pair it with to control it apparently.

Well that’s a refreshing change for Google. The main reason I stay with Apple is because they silo much more data than Google does and I feel I have more control over my privacy.

That being said I don’t like setting the precedent of voluntarily inviting in devices that monitor us 24/7. There’s already traffic cams and CCTV in public. Maybe I’ve read too much Foucault but I’m not keen on creating a permanent panopticon.

Amazon is promoting something similar now. A fashion-oriented product aimed at women, the "Echo Look" I think. I also wouldn't want one in my home...
