Car vs speakers, eh? It was speakers for me...

Car is the way to go. Random audio gets you nerd cred from internet dorks, a car allows you mobility in the world and real life cred from human beings in your actual vicinity.

What zero is saying is that a car could drive you to a job or date, and audio gear won't get you laid.

You have your priorities straight, spwath. A well maintained Honda or Toyota can last you a long time and be among the cheapest in the long run. Of course, there are other ways to go.

(Stereos and sex only go together in late 60s/early 70s Playboy mags, btw.)

I have my dad's 2006 Toyota RAV4, but it's not mine, and there is 170k miles, and other issues. At some point, it won't be worth it to fix. Alternator is going to die soon, muffler has whole, 4wd, awd, and traction control don't work, check engine light on.
