At least it's not as grainy as the beta22 which was the last serious SS I tried. The talk about SS being better in bass grip is turning BS. Even the EHHA had better bass layers
Curious to hear your impressions after proper warm up. I find the jot to be very transparent. But I also noticed a bit of treble glare for awhile. I don't really notice it anymore, maybe it has lessoned, or I just got used to it. Also, it seems to have less of a mid bass bump sound with my hd650 as compared to my valhalla2, and I think that contributes to hearing the treble as brighter. Just my thoughts
Yep, I agree where HD650 doesn't sound as bassy with the Jot. But then 650 also doesn't sound like it should. Hardly any depth and gets tiring due to minor treble glare.
But yes, every other setup I've heard the 650 on, the mid bass is very prominent. Not so much on the jot. Puzzling..
The DAC paired with jot matters a lot. The zdac I tried initially sucked. Thin and bright.
The Jot is clean but don't think it's transparent. The tone is upper mids/ lower treble oriented. I am finding it difficult for my headphones to show variations in timbre ,tone & depth. They all sound upper mids heavy and forward
I was initially kind of thrown off by the sound as well, but somehow it really grew on me over time. I listen with the jot most of the time now, but my valhalla2 is just as good, albeit different. Oh, one other thing, for awhile it seemed to me that the low gain setting had less treble steeliness. I'm running balanced. But like I say that impression has diminished for me.
Yeah, the low gain has less offensive treble and also less forward. High gain just messed up everything, no depth at all. My DAC is single ended (modded Assemblage dac2/Transdac) hence cannot try Bal. I'll have the jot for few days, shall see.
