The results of deliberate planning, judicious buying and painful culling are clear to see. I now have only 15 headphones. No problem here!

Gen 1 T1 in the house ... not a universal headphone but beautiful pairing with OTL SET valve amp.

Loving my new Audeze Sine closed backs ... except for the comfort factor. Can't wait for the over-ear mod!

Just got Matrix M-Stage HPA-3B - love it. Now have opportunity to swop for Headroom BUDA + Desktop PSU. Very different ... Which one???

Matrix HPA-3B - fine amp with warm but clear signature, great detail, crisp timing and bags of dynamic headroom! Lots of Deckardness here!

Is that a good thing? The Deckard is rather "meh", as I recall.

I really liked the Deckard amp section, DAC not so much.

I'm pretty sure Matrix OEMs the amp section in the Deckard.

Organ / brass quintet concert observations: wetter tonal balance than "neutral", real trumpets are ear piercing, soundstage narrow but deep.

Every time I use HD600 and HD650 I am struck by how much Sennheiser got right with these models decades ago ...

@Kattefjaes ... problem? Certifiable condition yes, but not a problem. I have a lovely LCD2.2PF which I regard as a proper upgrade to the 650 but it comes with neck spasms as standard. You got me thinking about 650 mods again ... maybe I should give it a go. What are the top three (preferably reversible) mods?

Forget about reversible and go all-in. The easiest way is to search on here for the "KISS mod". If you hate it, parts are readily available to go back. Honestly, I was wary about taking cutters to mine, too- but it's quite liberating. I screwed up and chopped the wrong thing off once, as pictures were less plentiful then- but the world didn't end.

Oh, and they are amazingly easy to dismantle/reassemble, so you'll be all set when you need to replace worn parts!

... the $1000 HD800 plus $100 Sonarworks plugin does very much the same thing as an un-EQd $4000 (now $3000) Utopia. No need to upgrade!

A good HD800 system is enough to stop the upgraditis. At Canjam Essen 2016 I could not get Serious' HD800 system out of my head. The HD800 can be end-game for headphone listening.

      So I'm running a "former flagship" collection. HD600/650/800, LCD2.2, K1000. Does a well-priced HE-560 have a reason to join the mix?
      1. Vansen
        Vansen
No. But an HE-6, HE-5, or even an HE-500 does.

I think the 560 does.. But it -greatly- depends on upstream components with the 560.. A very picky bastard.. I know, I've owned it three times.
