I'm curious if anyone has heard the thing. I've googled reviews, but the most prominent thing by far is nwavguy's denouncement of the unit.

That said, I'm a huge fan of everything AMB I've heard...being the gamma2 DAC, OJneg's CKK amp (thanks again dude), and the gamma1.5 (post with review pending). I should note that, besides the active ground, the very impressive headphone amplification stage of the gamma1.5 is the same as that of the mini3. I'm also convinced that the O2 is definitely not 100% audibly transparent, which makes me want to take nwavguy's opinions with a grain of salt.

So, has anyone here heard the mini3? Was it indeed a fluke due to its active ground design?

Belated response - my verdict is that the mini3 is a fun quick build, but I confess mine mostly sits collecting dust in a drawer, and I ultimately opted against investing the $40 for end plates (which is half again the price of the rest of the amp and case).

I find that the sound is generally better than the headphone out on an ipad, but it is not as clean sounding as an O2. That said, it also warmer and doesn't have the sometimes unnatural trebles of the O2. You might well like it better. That said, my advice would be to build a desktop amp instead if you feel the diy itch. At the end of the day, a 9v just doesn't have the swing to make high ohm phones sing. YMMV and all that.
