So... I just won a contest on Head-Fi and posted my thanks to its creator on his thread https://www.head-fi.org/threads/ran...duction-and-reviews-on-page-1.826876/page-239 (post # 3584), expressing that besides his thread, head-fi mostly sucks in 2017 because the site redesign is hot garbage and I was very alarmed to learn that Jude would censor any posts mentioning "the site that shall not be named" (I used that exact phrase and did not directly nor indirectly reference Super Audio Best Friends).

Lo and behold, about 18 hours later, I got a notification that my post was edited with that portion stricken out because "we don't allow reference or links to superbestaudiofriends here."

Wow, talk about oversensitive fascism! Literally nothing in my post alluded to Super Audio Best Friends- for all they know I could have been referring to something completely innocuous, like www.judewanksgoats.com.

Congratulations SBAF- you must've done something amazing to get Jude's diapers so wadded up! Mods, feel free to move this somewhere more appropriate: my initial post on head-fi was in an iem thread, and I don't know this site well enough to know where to post such random musings, so I just dropped it off here. Cheers guys,

    Chris

OK... now I want to know what the drama is, so I can then go up to those involved and offer to help them learn how to get the F over it.

For chrissakes... it's music! There's just no room for petty drama.

It has nothing to do with music. For headfi it is all a matter of money.

Ah. So... 'petty' is the word of the day then.

    Thanks.

"Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet (because way too many people on head-fi don't know what they're talking about and recommend overpriced garbage)."

That's the spirit! On the other hand I strongly believe that there's enough room for both this forum and Head-fi.org. You know, make Lovecraft, not Warcraft and all that jazz...

Say what you wish about HeadFi but the fact of the matter is, it has way more updates and info about the latest gear like IEMs which I find severely lacking around here .

Anyone can recommend gear or any combination of gear for that matter. However, I do believe we are all capable of making our own decisions. Whatever the consequences are; no one on HF or any other forum is pointing a gun and forcing you to to buy.

@Khai: valid points. The problem is that head-fi'ers are anonymous and there's no real way of vetting them and their opinions besides spending a tremendous amount of time on the site. As a noob, I threw away a lot of money not knowing that and I'm sure countless others have as well.

To everyone posting on this page of the thread, please keep the discussion on topic. Trust me, nobody on here cares about headfi, how many people post there, or the iem or dap recommendations they make. Thankfully you're free to go and read and post on those threads if you would like to do so, but try to control the temptation to update us all about it.

@chrisSC, yeah, Head-Fi no like SBAF. It is what it is. I wouldn't worry about it.

@Khai, from a consumer perspective Head-Fi is a shit site. Practically impossible for the average Joe to make an informed decision with the help of Head-Fi. From a vendor perspective Head-Fi is a great site. A great way to advertise that your product actually exists to the world.

However, it is not a problem IMO. In the end, SBAF and Head-Fi are just data points when it comes to content.

Note this forum is not the Anti-Head-Fi forum. This forum is just different from Head-Fi.

This is something I feel a lot of people could stand to keep in mind. Err, myself included; when I come across a particularly irritating thread on HF and feel the need to rant, I'm tempted to go straight here, lol.

But really @chrisSC , it shouldn't matter where you get your jollies so long as you're not being an ass. HF is great for classifieds and for the fact that lots of manufacturers and vendors use it as a platform to make announcements, perhaps not so great for obtaining reliable impressions of audio gear.

The latter is something I took a while to "get". Back when I was new to all this just a few years back, I somehow got it in mind that everyone who'd ever posted a review on there knew what they were talking about, especially the ones with hundreds or thousands of posts under their belt. Yep, I wasn't quite the sharpest spoon in the sock drawer.

Also, it's NEVER just about music. Put a large number of people into a confined space, in this case an online audio forum, you will get people who strive to establish their superiority over others or attempt to earn validation through contributions to the group. Hell, even I feel like throwing together a measurement rig when the budget permits just so I can join in the fun here! Anyway, if you genuinely have no care for anything outside of getting good sound for your budget or finding new (or new to you) music that you love, then joining an audio forum the like of SBAF, Head-Fi, ComputerAudiophile, or Lord alone knows what else, is just going to weigh you down. Some of the more passionate enthusiasts I'm acquainted with (not necessarily limited to the audio hobby) often don't stand out as much as some others who, though not lacking in enthusiasm, attempt to make up for their comparative inexperience with obfuscation and misdirection, the forum equivalent of raising your voice dramatically to draw attention to oneself and overwhelm quieter ones. These people usually keep to a close circle of friends who're just as far along in their hobbies of choice and have to bat off hordes of others who want to join the "cool kids' table" on a regular basis despite not advertising themselves.

    Huh, sounds kinda familiar.
