    Ohh I’ll preemptively reply.
Did she try Smith & Cult’s Darjeeling Darling? It looks amazing, even if I’m more into pastel nail colors lmao. Sadly I found it chips a lot. Also, Sally Hansen’s Jealous Boyfriend looks nice. Big fan of the brand for ease of application and quality, though haven’t really tested that exact color.

Funny you mention LCD-3... my old modded pair’s left driver just died not too long ago. As for HFM, I’ve had two Susvaras end up D.O.A. in one channel.

Is there something specific you’re looking for that your other headphones aren’t giving you? Or are you just looking for a new experience? I’ve been shilling Stax a lot in my threads, but when people talk about wanting a new experience in headphones, it’s definitely something to consider.

Other than that, I’d think about modded stuff like the Audio Zenith PMx2 or LFF Code X.

I haven’t spent much time with the HE1000 v2, but the original was pretty good.

The practical response is that I like to pace and move around a lot, so having something either portable or semi-transferable is ideal. That and being in various situations that require me to keep my music to myself.

However I can’t deny that headphones, as cultural artifacts in and of themselves, just have a certain appeal to me.

As far as speakers go, I tend to be a fan of open baffle designs. Also panels like Maggies, Quads, and Sanders. DIY line arrays are pretty neat.

As Azura’s Wrath teaches us, they become statues in a public park for pidgins to crap on and moss to grow on and stuff.

    I don’t recall seeing a DAC question.

As for Cary, I’m not rlly familiar with anything of theirs.
The 300B from Manley Labs however is one of this hobby’s hidden gems.
    Just throwing that out there.

Thanks, that's a very good point.
My main headphones are HD800S and I just cannot imagine replacing those. But I wanted to experience good planar headphones and bought used HE500. I like them very much but every time I listen to something new and complex, after 10 minutes I am looking for my HD800S. It's like with HE500 I can feel it, the bass in particular, but with HD800S I can actually hear everything better, but not at the same emotional level. I wanted both.
I had a chance to audition HEK v2 and compare to Utopia, not that I was planning to buy Utopia. I think I found what I was looking for in HEK v2, and much more. I really liked it andI left Utopia on the table without any regrets or second thoughts which one I like better.
Few days later someone on CAM was selling HEK v2 that he got as an upgrade to ver 1 in July this year. The price was 1/2 of new HEK v2, and I could not resist. So my HE500 will have to go and am settled with what I hope will be my end game planar. Oh, I was considering Stax but the prices are scary, even without dedicated amps...

Thanks for the recommendation of L300. Currently had them for a couple of days and enjoying them. Technically superior to any other headphone I've owned, but TH 900 still does metal best for me !

I was wondering, what are your thoughts on DACs? I am looking to upgrade. Thinking about Modi Multibit, but wondering if going for a used 2Qute would be better.. I also hear a lot of talk about multibit vs delta sigma.. Whats your take on all this? Any DAC recommendations coming from dragonfly red ?

    Glad you dig the L300.

TBH I’m not really the person to ask about DACs, as I’m more about physical media: turntables, CD players, even cassettes. Based on my limited experience, I tend to gravitate more toward NOS R2R stuff like Metrum and the like.

Right now I’m using a SFD1, but if I were updating I’d prolly look into the Pavane or the newest iteration of the Yggdrasil, as the multibit stuff I’ve heard was still great.

Like... as long as there’s minimal digital glare going on (like with a lot of Sabre chips), then I’m cool. @%20 Oddity uses the Modi with their Stax L300 system and seems to like it.

Having recently bought a Liquid Glass (Agent Orange) for my Code-X, what can you tell me about the amp? Mine still needs to be serviced and voltage converted to 220V by Avenson Audio before being shipped to me. Is it really the end-game amp for planars like Code-X as they say it is? I got to listen to the LAu/Abyss combo a few years ago, but I was frankly underwhelmed by it.

I no longer own the HD800 but I wonder if it's also something to consider since a lot of people seem to love the LG/HD800 combo. I wasn't fond of the idea of driving an HD800 from an SS or a hybrid amp, but my experience with the likes of BW or Torpedo 3 helped me embrace certain exceptions.

Also tube recommendations are always welcome. I'm the guy who feels Code-X is a rather bright headphone (not to mention HD800) and could use some extra warmth as long as that warmth doesn't come off as warmf*g.

I am loving, LOVING my L300s. As a matter of fact, once I get my modi multibit in, I'm ready to declare endgame! Unless...... The Stax L700 can be properly driven by the 252 & is a worthy purchase for someone already owning the L300. Thoughts?

@MuppetFace . Really great to see you back. C.S. Days were fun. I have to agree with Paradox comment back a ways back. My favorite semi-close can. Also he’s a great friend IRL.

Hi, once again sorry for not being MuppetFace in MuppetSpace, but:

The 252 amp can properly drive, uh... the L300, Lambda Basic, 207, 003mk2... probably that's it. It's a really low voltage amp for entry level headphones. I'd recommend getting at least a 323/353 amp to play with the big boys of the L700+ range. Cheap to find on eBay.

also for what it's worth i keep liking the L300s more than the L700s. Blame the weirdly recessed staxbass.

What do you think are the best headphones between SR 007,SR 009,HD 800 and Utopia in terms of technicalities ?

Star gazing is one of my favorite things. I used to count falling stars. Mix in some music on a portable player, maybe some herb, and you're set for a really peaceful and beautiful night.

I also used to go find Betelgeuse nearly every night while it was varying so much in the hopes of seeing the super-nova that was believed to be imminent (in galactic time scales). I know it may last for hundreds of thousands of years longer, but hey, a guy can hope.

Now, we've moved not to Margaritaville, but Mosquito-ville it's a much more difficult summertime outing without some Deep Woods Off.
