Hell, I find HD800 slips off from time to time, also (though god damn, they're comfy).

This is why I love the 650 clamp. I can go nuts on the air drums or whatever and they never leave my head. I do get some WTF looks from my dog though.

I was at CanJam SoCal and I got to audition these for a while. It's a shame Audeze demoed these with their own amplifiers (but I suppose that was to be expected).

Impressions were (and take these with a grain of salt given it was a fairly noisy environment) -

They feel like about half the weight of my LCD-X (thank god).
They have smoother treble than my LCD-X and the 2F (2014) I used to own.
The midrange is slightly shouty depending on the music - but this makes me think Audeze is attempting to address the upper-mid suckout.
Bass didn't seem to extend as low as my 2010 LCD-2, but was on par with my X.
They seemed to have comparable efficiency to the X. Both have low impedance.

I'm just a little confused about the marketing - didn't Audeze previously market the X as the "professional" studio headphone? Whatever that even means.

Anyway, I liked the Pro's better than all of the fazors (edit: including the LCD-4's Audeze was demoing and my own LCD-X) I've heard both in terms of sound and comfort, so that's something. But I still feel like they don't hold a candle to a modded HE-6 or even an a-grade pre-fazor LCD-2, both of which can be had secondhand for substantially less.

Might end up swapping out my X for the Pro's though, if they can run as easily off of my portable-ish editing rig.

    (edited for more random commentary)

weak clamp means the frame needs to be tightened up (excluding a stretched headband)

It's funny, I was going to make a facile comment about how the lower mass of the HD650 probably helps, too- but I googled, and the HD650 comes in at 260 grams, and the HD800 at 330. which is less than I expected. Colour me surprised.

Once you get over the weird creaking velour, the HD650M really are hard to beat in so many ways. It's crazy how much more head time mine get than my HD800SDR. Nailing the tonality and comfort gets you a long way, especially with solid QA. Cough, cough, Audeze.

    I'm happy with my Eikon.
    I'm HAPPY with my Eikon.

    I'm happy with my eikon.

    I'm hap... pee.
    I...

    Goddamit.

LCD-2 was my first TOTL headphone. I tried to stick with Audeze. This might be worth a try.

But they probably won't sound great on the ZDS, so I'm safe. Right?

The only time I want to see "Pro" as part of a product name is when the company has an established history of selling to professionals --- and then, of course, they don't need it.

"Pro," if not an outright lie, is utter hype. Loses points in my (admittedly rather puritan) company-image assessment.

Lucky man. Enjoy and look no further!

HD600 was my first (and probably last) TOTL headphone. Twenty years after it ceased to be totl, but hey, better late than never :D

I will confess to having had a quick listen to an Audeze (LCD1, I think) in a shop, quite a few years back. This was in my Audio-Technica period, and I did find it desirable. I think this was before they started messing around with model iterations and fazors and stuff. It was more comfortable than I expected, but a few minutes was not really enough to know if my slender frame could support the weight.

Edit. loose/lose: one of my regular mistakes.

Given how nice your chain is looking these days, I think your chances of not pouncing on additional headphones is small.. I mean.. a ZDS... Have you tried HD650 out of it? Utopia? sorrynotsorry

(Eikon does look nice, and I'm very much looking forward to the loaner, but am getting the feeling that it's more "pretty good (for a closed back)" verging on "pretty good", rather than "I am the way and the path, I am the dead and their land".)

Utopia has my interest, but I'd have to find one for at least 50% off to even consider it.

I might jump on a 6xx if massdrop has another one, or a 650 if they drop below $300 new sometime, but I'm not burning to try it.

I am kind of curious to hear an Atticus, though.

In all seriousness, this LCD Pro would have to be widely considered the second coming to tempt me.

Sell me your ZDS, order an Aficianato, get your LCD Pro (good luck with being bleeding edge with anything Audeze), and then everybody is happy...

Audeze keeps finding ways to lure me in even though I know I don't like their headphones.

Planars don't play well with EC amps.

    Also, SHUT UP, DEVIL!

I'd buy these in a heartbeat even though I love my X and XC, they are just too heavy for my neck (C-Spine fusion 2 discs).

Finally, my years of bitching and complaining about the weight/comfort of Audeze headphones has paid off!! If they get these into production around the 350 gram mark it would be very difficult for me to take a pass on them. I'm following this one closely.

I just hope its incorrect that the only reason LCD headphones stay securely on my head is their excess weight...

I have to say, they were exceptionally comfortable at CanJam. The frequency curve reminded me of the LCD-X. As neutral-ish as Audeze ever deigns to be.

This must be your dream headphone given your preference for Audeze and need for better comfort.

As I think about it, the closest analogue I can think of in terms of comfort is HD800. Big, but light and well distributed. The CF headband helps a lot.
