Any updates on the order? Headfi impressions are starting to roll in.

We ordered a while ago. I'm sure A-GD will ship sooner or later.

So word on the street is that this needs a lot of warm up time to sound its best, like the Schiit multibits. The Headfi reviewer comparing it to the Yggdrasil noted noticeable improvements after leaving it on for 24 hours. At startup, it is a bit sibilant and bass light but that goes away after reaching thermal stability, according to him. Just passing some impressions along. Looking forward to SBAF reviews.

Don't worry. @Hands, @Torq, and I are familiar with the two-three-seven day warm up times with resistor ladder / string DACs. We extend DAC gear loaner periods for this reason.

I'll let it burn in for a week, two if everyone will let me, in case that helps anything before lending it out.

Just leave in on until changes get minimal. I've never heard a mustard or custard become an Yggdrasil after 40 days.

For what it's worth, Kingwa posted in that forum where people are giving first impressions saying "Power on the unit 24 hours X15 days, the burn in will finished."

I've eaten mustard, custard, and gizzards, but not Gustards.

The behavior is asymptotic. We should get really close after leaving it on for a few days. You can tell where it is going after a few days and changes lessen to the point of being insignificant.

FWIW, I felt the Audio-GD Master 7 sounded worse four, five hours after being turned on.

I'd be inclined to follow an accelerated protocol* for reaching thermal equilibrium with things like the X20 or other, similar, Chi-Fi D/S DACS.

And when I say "accelerated" I really mean via the application of a suitable accelerant ... say a gallon or so of gasoline ... followed by the introduction of an prompt-ignition source, such as a freshly struck match. Although gradually heating the whole thing to about 540 degrees, instead, adds a nice sense of anticipation to the proceedings (and it's about as much excitement as the thing is likely to yield).

We should solicit funds expressly for this and film for YouTube. Connect cables to O2 and Grado SR60 and see when sound dies.

    That would be entirely fun!

    As for this ...

First, I guess we now know what your next venture is: "Marvey's House of [Aural] Pain!". Creative sadism on that level surely is a lucrative market. We're talking either serious talent or innate malevolence here!

Second, it's fitting that you said "when the sound dies", because the music died the moment that foul combination began to speculate about the merest possibility of crossing your mind. Now that you've uttered it openly ... well, someone has to be sacrificed.

I don't think you need to add accelerants. Just tape over the fuse. Cardboard under the transformers will keep the fire going.

You really should film a GUTB reaction shot. The screaming and the wailing...

Wait ... is that his reaction to watching it burn? Or having to listen to it?

I should say, for the record, while I am fairly harsh and a bit dismissive of things like the X20 (which I've heard) and the S-19 (which I haven't), this is mostly due to an odd sense of humor - though, today at least, there is also the influence of some cold medicine that a) isn't working and b) clearly doesn't agree with me.

But, when it comes to writing up any formal impressions, or doing genuine back-to-back comparisons, I will ALWAYS do it as fairly and evenly as I can. Which means describing what I actually hear as best I can. I'm not claiming that there won't be bias at work (I have many biases and preferences), but I won't "rubbish" a product in an actual write-up or evaluation unless it genuinely deserves it. Nor will I cover up warts in/for a product/brand that I generally like/respect.

However, when faced with shills, rampant and obvious fanboism, ridiculous manufacturer claims/fear-mongering and other blatant twatwaffle ... well ... I'm a bit less than tolerant of that.

GUTB would have a breakdown for sure. Cardboard modded Gustard was "real High-End".
