Gen 2 has removable cables. I switched them around. There was a YouTube video a while back that showed the Beyer QA process. The German lady only appeared to test one channel before sending the headphone on its way.

Long time readers of Changstar already know that I'm a magnet for screwy or defective Beyer headphones. Well at least I can measure one channel. I think this might be a Sennheiser conspiracy to destroy Beyer. Yes, this does seem like some kind of cruel sick joke on me.

I doubt out of 40000 shipped HD800, even one had a dead channel unless severely beaten up/damaged during shipping.

"Sylar" Spock would probably lose it and go apeshit and beat someone to a pulp with the defective T1s.

Metal coloration and timbre still evident the treble. Mid-treble seems more refined, but still peaky. Notable difference from Gen 1 is that mids are now recessed as a result of warmish bass and lower mids. I don't recall the mids being this pushed back with the Gen 1. Gen 1 was warmish with nasty treble. Gen 2 seems warmish with sucked out mids and slightly less nasty treble. My instinct is that Gen 2 seems like a gimmick. I might prefer the "proper" T1 Gen 1 to the Gen 2.

Measurements tonight for sure. Hard to say listening to only one channel when one is used to listening with both ears.

Beyer's drivers throughout their headphone lines have never been sturdy. I've suffered driver failures with DT770 and DT880. I think I am cursed with Beyer. Then again, how many Audezes died in my very hands right in front of me?

It's like you have the opposite of the Midas touch for poorly manufactured headphones.

The luckiest Merv around with the luckiest headphone samples.
Crack the cups open to see if they still look like this inside.

It seems that some people have experience driver failure in the new DT1770 as well (at least from what I've read on the head-fi's thread). Definitely send them back. @purrin , @ultrabike still has my DT1770s, so maybe you can meet with him and listen to those. From your initial impressions, I think these two might end up sounding similar-ish...
