I've read reviews for it and honestly, it doesn't seem like it's worth the money at all. You might as well save up a few hundred more and buy a used HD800.

From the few lines I read, it seems like Beyerdynamic---one of the world's first and oldest headphone manufacturers---stumbled upon a hitherto unknown secret for controlling unwanted resonances and ringing: damping!

What will those nutty engineers think of next.

Maybe they just figured out how to get the channels balanced?

"The Amiron Home’s rich tonality and resolution were particular standouts for me. The new tuning brings much-needed warmth to the Beyerdynamic line. I dare say that the Amiron Home makes the Sennheiser HD650—a headphone commonly regarded for its lush mids and analog sound signature—sound quite hollow while also besting it at just about everything with the exception of, perhaps, overall soundstage width. For me, the Amiron Home’s overall sound is what I’ll call believable; it’s realistic and natural. Add in the crispness achieved throughout the dynamic range and you gain a great deal of detail being pushed into your ears without ever coming off as aggressive or fatiguing."

Beyer also claimed that they fixed the treble resonances on the T1 V2. They didn't. Is this time for realsies?

Considering I read the whole thing and still have no idea how the headphone sounds, nobody I should listen to.

Ah, I realize it's the review posted in the first post.

Can we also have "Amibrite" as an honorable mention? On a more serious note, I'm eager to see how it will be perceived by SBAF. I think I already fell for plenty of marketing tricks through ambiguous/lengthy descriptions, I'm just gonna hopelessly count on the gatekeepers of bad value/tuning for an early verdict.:D

@zonto - I tend to assume the worst, that the reviewer is at least on the "free stuff in return for glowing praise" gravy train, if not outright being paid, on lots of sites, HF included. Sometimes you're pleasantly surprised by people daring to dislike things for good and well-articulated reasons, but it happens very infrequently. Liking everything seems to be the rule.

That said, the fault is on both sides in many cases- often the manufacturer gets seriously butthurt if someone finds fault with their loaner or free review unit- the blame falls on both sides.

Back to the topic.. have any of the "Tesla technology" headphones actually been good, and not unpleasantly funny-sounding? I nearly wished for @Marvey to give these a listen and measure them, but then I remembered how traumatised people seemed by how inexplicably bad the T1 and the T1 G2 were.

Let's hope whoever has the final say in tuning either gets a new hearing aid or retires.

Here's another write-up of them, though again from a site that suspiciously seems to like everything...

First post but I've been scanning the airwaves here for the better part of a year.

I never liked any of Beyer's pervious phones and that includes the T1 Gen 1 and 2. That being said, I heard the new DT1990 Pro at a show recently and I loved it, so much so that I bought one the next day. I have been loving them ever since. I would easily recommend them. I know Beyer's wonky tuning turns many people off and as a result, their products are seldom discussed here but I think they are on the right track with their latest products.

That being said, I think the Amiron is too mellow for most listeners. I personally have not heard them yet but over at Headfi, most people who have heard both the DT1990 Pro and the Amiron, overwhelmingly prefer the DT1990.

I would also favorably compare the DT1990 Pro to the Elear. The Elear is slightly more resolving and goes a bit deeper / bass impact is punchier as well but not enough to warrant the $400 price hike.

In my opinion, the Elear suffer from ever so slightly hollow mids ... vocals seem a bit too recessed, as if they have been pushed back a bit in the soundstage. I only noticed this after listening for a few days since I was initially distracted by the "fun, punchy sound".

This guy notices this as well:

The DT1990 Pro has the same issue but it is less noticeable and bothersome which is why I picked it up over the Elear. I think the DT1990 is worth a demo for sure and I hope Marvey measures it at some point. He mostly liked my R70x as well so maybe he will enjoy the DT1990 Pro.

Maybe Lachlan will like it better if he puts it on the right way.

Funny, I just noticed he does put it on backwards at one point. I highly doubt he did his demo listening that way though.

Not just their wonky tuning, but their alarming variance.

Without wishing to seem rude, I do really want to know what one of the usual suspects (with known ears, tastes and prejudices) thinks of them. I have no calibration point at all for what you hear or like, or even if you're an evil dwarf in the pay of Beyer, Jude or the Bavarian Illuminati.

I liked my DT 1350s, though they did have some suckouts in the mids and some grain in the treble. But the supra-aural clamp was too painful so I sold them. T1s I heard were pretty piercing thought.
