The measurements below were taken with the pleather pads. Note that the dip just below 5kHz is not really a dip. It's stronly associated with the ridge just after 4kHz as confirmed with the CSD. This measurement characteristic is sometimes seen in both speaker and headphone measurements. A sharp dip in the frequency response caused by standing ways which just happen to cancel themselves out in the FR measurement (which takes the entirety of the measurement time interval ), but is revealed in CSDs (which are chunks of the measurement time window) as ringing at a nearby frequency.

LOL, these sound better than T1 Gen 2. Reminds me of the DT770. I can't say whether it's better or worse since it's been too long I've heard DT770s. A lot of bass with the pleather pads and this tends to mask the treble spike. Also, the midrange isn't sucked out to the netherworlds as on the T1 Gen 2.

Note bass quality isn't too great with high second order and third order keeping up with and actually exceeding second order harmonic to 200Hz. This is a bit odd as we usually see D3 much lower than D2. Midrange sounds odd, possibly because of the pronounced dip at 230Hz.

The below measurements were taken with the solid-plate coupler.

Here's is the foam coupler "open plate" measurement. Pleather pads still.

But Tesla drivers have such low distortion and this is the 2.0 version!

One thing I should mention is the plastic cupped reverb coloration. Channel matching is good.

Can I ask a noob question about measurements? -- How does one see that colouration in the charts?

LOL it´s all just marketing speak at this point. Thing is most people don´t seem to care about objective data and get very angry when you criticize their beloved headphones. This will probably be the last Beyer product I´ll ever purchase. Kinda sad really. Anyways, thanks for measuring these!

Both AKG and Audeze have 1.5 Tesla magnets in their flagships now.. Beyer need a new gimmick

Ideally they'd work on actually improving their non-Tesla line, but I'm scared they'd just go and make them worse. At the very least they could do a detachable cable refresh but apparently such a convenience is reserved for their more expensive headphones.

They did apparently "improve" the DT 880. http://diyah.boards.net/thread/648/beyer-dt-880-600-ohm

FR looks less offensive outside of the dip but qc looks worse.

That was a measurement of the Pro model so I'm not sure if it's limited to those or if the 'improvements' were to the premium line too. For reference my DT880-250 are from the beginning of 2015 and they are just as bright as older graphs suggest. I would love to have them measured though.

EDIT: Though being a Massdrop special they could have been old stock and that GE review is from June..

Sometimes recessed mids with lower treble spikes and notches in the upper bass can cause that for me.

Yeah, I think I'll stick with my T5p, maybe this one and that's it. Unless Beyer steps up in a big way, they don't get my money.

Thanks for your measurements as well Marv.

Well I just heard back from Beyer and to quote:
It could just be a measurement error or faulty drivers. Interestingly somebody pointed out to me that those GE measurements of the DT880 Pro look very similar to Tyll's measurements of the 'Edition' 32ohm model.

Anyway I'll end the offtopic post chain here since this thread is about the DT 1770.
