    Upgradeable design no?
You've been doing dis sheet since the 80s. The bulk of change has already passed since then. The most well liked pair of headphones on this site is 15 years old now and still going strong af (too strong ffs). Yes , Schiit is working on new stuff but they themselves have already stated that their DAC line is pretty stable and they won't mess with that. Any DAC upgrades from now are evolutionary, not revolutionary.

I put off buying the parts for the new Intel Kaby Lake PC system with NVidia video card. Cost of $2,500. The new Intel system would allow me to get so much more work done. I am a computer guy. Use them with all the power that will allow. It sucks that I have to put my Intel Kaby Lake upgrade off with the livingroom sound system. I spend most of my life in front of multiple computers. Usually 3 or 4. It hurts to spend this money for sound system, when I spend most of my time in front of a bunch of monitors. So be it. It was time..............

Now all you humans must understand that I am a person that has at least 20 hard drives running all the time. Life in the computing world and information technology is a sponge for me.

    For fun.........
I play Counterstrike. Best reflexes game on the planet and has the biggest sports following and million dollar payout for professional sports game players.......

There is a method to my madness. Money spent is for a reason. I waited 5 years for Freya. That was a Preamp to buy. From there..... it was SBAF which helped me to buy the right DAC (Modi Multibit) and send back the model down. It was NuPrime that came out with the STA-9..... $650.00 for a good amplifier. I kept up with your SBAF website and got involved. I voiced my opinions on balanced problems with NuPrime and my subwoofer. Tried to fix without going to RCA outputs. Not a chance.............

Picked up a REL S3 sub. $1,395.00 Refurb.......... Oh Boy!!! Sound was fun now....... So I put my Martin Logan Dynamo 1000 on a Remote Control switch. When I needed a little more at low volume, I could flip the switch.....

Then I found a sale on a REL S3 that was non-functional. I bought it for a very small amount. I thought that I could get it fixed from the company at worst..... and maybe I could fix it myself at best............. well it turns out that I fixed it............. about $1,800.00 savings.........

Now I have 2 REL S3 subs that I can stick in between my Martin Logan ESLs. Most want 2 RELS. They say it balances things. I have them just to the center side of the ESLs. REL wants me to put them in the corners of the room. Not going to work in my house. I am going to piss off not only family, but neighbors as well. So that's another reason that I went with 2 REL S3 subs is that placement is next to ESL speaker and not in corner of room (as to REL recommendation).

Feel free to let me know about your computer setup. I find that most here are not into the computing world. I have built websites for 14 years. Have had a marketing division that built business from the ground up, and supplied all the tools, software, hardware, training for a company to make money. Not sure if there is any power users here. I love to do animation, 3D modeling, Video Editing and Music Creation. I spent the new Millenium in the tech industry and put many companies with full service of computer systems for their companies under 25 units. The part of me that you don't understand is the computer part. That is where my skills are now. Let me make that clear.

You clearly are making sense..... I am just one big pain in ass.... I know it....... Hey......... Take a look at my statement at the bottom of my posts.......

I know what I'm doing........... it will all pan out in the end.... you guys are not used to the type of individual that makes up the Big D.

I come from a town in the Jersey Shore called Seaside. You may have heard of it (MTV). Since forever............ I have walked that sacred ground........ now I live in North Florida...... people are nice here........ you show respect when out....... me like........... no waves.......... for surfer like me......... ouch...........

Dis sheet so dank i don't know how to respond....

Retired computer engineer who plays cs and has $1000 to spend on cables ....dunno if I should idolize you or consider you a weirdo. The situation you're in seems like endgame for me but the level of "im right cuz im old and experienced and am more tech-savvy than all yall" is just too over the top....

You are so good in coming in to save the day with my rants. I thank you for that.....

I know I should really tone it down and shut the hell up. Really I should. It's not that I am not aware of my clacking jaws and constant repeating of the same freakin' thing. My girlfriend tells me that every day. I just wish some could stand next to me, like it used to be before the internet. Then it would be a whole hell of a lot different. The world has changed. To convey yourself is not the same as in person anymore. I guess that's where I have to try too hard to make a point. If this was done in real time in person.... you would have a different conclusion to all my posts. In this new day and age, things are not always what they seem or they might be quite different than what the reality is.

Enough said. I'm sure you get where I'm coming from.

Young ones......... I am still relevant in your group in person. That's a fact.

I find this thread fascinating from a psychology perspective but I can't help but feel it has strayed much too far off topic to be of any help to someone interested in the Freya.

Put my best set of tall bottle chrome top Sylvania 6SN7GTB in the gain stage.
I had a brand new set from the 60's never used standard size Sylvania 6SN7GTB for output stage

I had more tall bottle ones, but I only have 2 new Sylvania 6SN7GTB from the old days, so I wanted to try them in the worst way. They are so shiny in the pins. Most all of my other chrome tops don't have as much chrome either on them. That's why I chose that set for the gain stage. Stupid reasons but so far I love the sound of the change of the tubes. The tubes are so nice and easy to remove and replace. Makes for a fun time. Beware of vendors trying to sell you the perfect set of tubes for crazy money though. The best part about the tubes is that you can tailor the sound to your liking. The Freya tube circuit is a very nice circuit as well, and it really produces a good sound. The JFET I listen to as well. There can be some tracks that it might be good for the song in JFET or you just want to hear it differently. Tube circuit is just a little more lively and I keep going back to it. But it sure is fun to use the Passive, JFET and Tube settings on the Freya. Show me another preamp that you can have as much fun with for $699 with remote control no less. It's all about the tubes. Hoping to experiment more... just have to find a way to chronicle each change.

No one is saying that you are wrong. People are free to do as they wish. For example, I use speaker cables that would probably retail for $6000. On the other hand, after an interconnect shootout, I use interconnects that cost $70 a pair - they were lowest priced of the bunch but worked best in my system. This is my own fun and I largely keep it to myself.

There is a certain ethos of the forum, and this is where the members of coming from: 1) effective usage of funds; 2) not repeating the same mistakes they made; 3) reaching out to a larger audience. In effect, it's being responsible. We don't want people coming back and saying SBAF told them to do something stupid, even though we do stupid stuff ourselves.

It's true that with few exceptions (SFD, Theta, etc.), most DACs will be worth as much as a used condom in five years. However, DAC tech has not changed in the last 25-30 years. You can argue that DAC tech has reverted (back to multibit). If you are afraid of change, you can always get a nice turntable. For $3000, you can get better sound than any DAC, but at the expense of extreme inconvenience and possibly lack of content, especially if you don't already have any.

FWIW, the Gungnir DS DAC came out what seems like eons ago. Schiit released a multi-bit card update to the Gungnir DS a few years ago. The total price, buying the original DS and going the upgrade route was only a $100 more than buying the Gungnir Multibit new.

One thing that I would be extremely careful of is that the Gungnir Multibit is more neutral sounding than the Modi Multibit. The Modi Multibit is a little bassier and more laid back. From reading your posts, it seems like tonal balance and timbre are one of your sonic priorities. You may have to make another investment in cables to account for these changes.

Will need to put some thought into combining some posts from three or four threads - just need to track them down. Sort of a stream of consciousness scattered all over the forums, so hard to clean up. Suggestions from anyone for a thread subject line that encompasses all these thoughts would be helpful.

I kind of really like the sound out of the Modi Multibit. It suits my ears with the Freya and the NuPrime, REL S3 setup. It's just so smooth in presentation.

Just setup the Krell KST-100. Now I have new variables with the sound of the Krell. At first I tried running it thru one of my 2 AVRs solo. After 2 hours of that, I went to Krell straight into the wall socket with no AVR. The Krell dims the lights when turned on. Lots of power at startup. Manual says go right into wall socket. But I wanted to see if there was a difference in sound with AVR or wall socket. Wall socket opened up the sound. Sound of the Krell is different. I'm evaluating it all day today and making some adjustments with the REL S3 subs. Krell has a more pronounced bass output and I had to turn down the RELs some. I will post in the amp section my conclusions and comparison of sound to the NuPrime to the Krell.

Love to hear about the Big D setup, but on SBAF threads are best if kept topical. Freya questions impressions etc are cool, Krell amp stuff, cables, Modi Multibit, etc etc should go in other places. As The Wise Mr Dino said, some type of seperate blog / post would be a great place to read about the Fast Times at Big D high.

Yeah. It wouldn't be any different. It would just be in one dedicated place.

Maybe it would be better as a thread in "General Audio Gear Discussion". I get the impression that @Marvey has a different vision for the Blog section.

    Edit: Same concept, different section.

Right, I think the blog section is for the seasoned Friends and the Pros

I like a man with a plan. I'm wrestling with "Father Krell" as we speak. New settings all over again. Good luck with new Freya. It will bring hours of fun.

This spot will reveal the Klipsch era.......

It will be an interesting take on something that I'm not sure why Klipsch stopped improving on......

Not sure if the younger ones were there for this cheap way to have some seriously fun computer sound systems,,,,,,

    Story forthcoming.......

This spot will be about my original concept, and how I got to buy the products I did to start out the build.

This is where my want for Martin Logan can to fruition and the initial buy and what thoughts ran when thinking of how to spend the money to get to the brass ring........

    Coming Shortly,,,,,,,,,,
