This event traces its lineage back several years ago when Christian T. organized a California event in the Bay Area for headphone and personal audio hobbyists after an absence of activity of several years for large meets in the state. This progressed to various CHANGFests (California Headphone Audio N Gear) meets until the folks at Head-Fi.org saw the potential financial windfalls from such meets and started to saturate California with its own tradeshows several times a year where 99% of the gear being exhibited wasn't affordable by 99% of people.

This year, we've decided to take the power back to the people. This event is being funded by private donors and is essentially free, except for parking. We'll probably have a few vendors show up, but the rules are that they cannot act like vendors. No huge advertising signs. Vendors get one table to show their best stuff. Vendors won't be able to buy eight tables from us because we have nothing to sell them. Essentially vendors must act like one of us, enthusiasts and hobbyists who care deeply about sound.

But I digress. The awesomeness of the hobbyist oriented approach is that they are more fun, we get to meet people and make friends (in many cases deep friendships), and more often than not, we get the hear great sounding systems put together by people with good ears for not that much money. So if you have some stuff to show off, even if its modest, please bring it (sign up as an exhibitor). At the very least, we can talk about music - I always walk away from these meets discovering new music. Finally, even if you don't have anything to show, or this might be your first time, come on by. The people at these events are super welcoming.

For those travelling from far away, reserve a room at the Hilton using the “ZSG” catering discount code. Call this number to make a reservation: 310-410-6147

    VENDOR INFO:

This is a meet run by hobbyists for the hobbyists. We are not making money on this and in fact expect to lose money, our own money. Manufacturers are welcome with a few stipulations:
    1. No signage / backdrops (Corporate T-shirts or business cards are OK). Basically you come as one of us, more as an enthusiast than vendor.
    2. One table. Bring your best shit that will fit on one table. No, you cannot "buy" more than one table.
    3. Spots are limited. Nothing has been decided on this yet. We won't know number of spots and we are unsure of selection criteria. Stay tuned.
SCARED OF ATTENDING / WHAT TO EXPECT:

Bring your gear if you can. This is NOT CanJam, so the show relies on hobbyists bringing their stuff. Even modest stuff... Something about how important is this is b/c it ain't a trade show. I think it will be pretty special because all we've had in terms of large meets in the past few years have been trade shows were normal people can't afford anything. If you can't bring anything, just drop by. Everyone is welcome. Just make you get an EventBrite ticket. Want to emphasize really how nice we are in person. Want to make sure people feel comfortable and don't feel intimidated going to these types of events.

No, we don't hate Head-Fi'ers. If Jude wanted to come to our meet, that would be dandy. We are not going to bite the heads off of "randos", or tar and feather them at the meet. The reason we have "randos" is because this place is a meritocracy and we prefer to keep the noise down. Also, please keep in mind that members here are also members of HF. There is 90% intersection. I was silently banned at HF, so that's why I no longer post there.

No person who isn't a member here should be afraid of going to this meet. I don't care if you are best buddies with Jude, you are welcome to come. We do not refer to Head-Fi as the "other site" or the "site that cannot be mentioned". We do not delete links to HF. You are free to repost content here on HF. So please, do not feel uncomfortable. We were all from HF. Meets are where we put all the stupid stuff aside and come together as hobbyists. The members here are super duper friendly and helpful, especially in real-life.

    UPDATE 3 June 2016:
I'm moving things along with the venue and contracts. I am 95% sure it's going to be on Saturday, November 5. I know many of you have expressed great interest in an official big international SuperBAF meet. It's finally happening. I will need some help, but don't know what kind of help will be needed. Some positions will be paid. More on this later.

This is going to be a meet run by hobbyists for the hobbyists. We are not making money on this and in fact expect to lose money, our own money. Manufacturers are welcome with a few stipulations:

    3. Spots are limited. Nothing has been decided on this yet. We won't know number of spots and we are unsure of selection criteria. Stay tuned.
    UPDATE 3 June 2016 part 2:

We plan to have 40 tables and expect some of the regulars to bring their rigs. We will also have a dedicated speaker room. I expect OJ to bring his creations. If I have time, I may DIY an Accuton driver or Altec horn based speaker.

    UPDATE 3 June 2016:

Working out contracts with LAX Hilton. 99% certain this will take place there.

    UPDATE 4 July 17 2016:

    Contracts signed.

daaanggg I would love to come. Also, if anyone is driving down from the Bay and wouldn't mind me tagging along I could bring my speaker rig if people are interested.

High efficiency C173-6-090 tissue/"soft fabric" surround Accuton based speaker? Some people think that driver is almost legendary. Also comes with legendary price.

Put me down for half a table. I might be flying to China that same day so I might or might not bring gear.

Yup. Either that or the dedicated midrange where I can pair with big woofers.

    ( Getting a little off-topic  )
Sounds a lot like what I've thought about. I've more or less narrowed down my selection to 3 drivers: C173-6-090, C90-6-724 CELL or C90-6-078. The C173 is much more sensitive than either 5" driver, but I'm a little scared of a resonance around 5kHz. Some FR graphs I've seen don't look too bad but I've not seen CSDs yet. The 5" drivers are also much cheaper.
All of those drivers also have a bad resonance between 8 and 10 kHz with the undamped CELL driver of course being the worst (by far). There's also the issue of the rear-side FR, especially if one considers an open baffle speaker (like me). I have a lot of space to work with in my room, so that shouldn't be a huge issue, but in this regard the C90 with its special magnet construction looks really horrible (pic).
