Put a locked cage around your tube amps. :)

Tubes are the real deal. Like you, years ago, I didn't want to "hassle" with them until I bought a BH Crack on a whim. They really do have an X-factor that is often imitated but never replicated with solid state. It's hard to explain until you've experienced it yourself.

Hi purrin - probably not the best place to ask, but might you have any tube amp recommendations for the HE560? Thanks in advance.

Just sold my V200 and I'm using an Asgard 2 to tide through for now (abit of a reversed situation compared to Kon Peki).

What amp? Do you find the HE560 to be too lean (bass light), too bright, too shrill (upper range of female vocals), or a combination. Trying to get a baseline where you stand.

That's a perfectly legit reason. Also, if the V200 ticks off the boxes for you for the HE560 and HD600 (and I do see the synergies); then really, the no other amps would matter much no matter the cost, less or more. I do urge you to try tubes when the time is right.

    "We" -> "customers"
Something tells me a certain someone among us isn't just a mere "customer". I'm surprised Marv took the time of day to reply to you, considering unlike you, he isn't paid to post.

Definitely will do. May even try to find a corner in my house where I can listen safely away from the kids. But for now, this is my main spot and one of my daughter's favorite places to sit:

Nice that the V200 has two headphone jacks so we can listen together :).

FYI, I raised 2 kids while having a tube preamp with 4 nicely exposed tubes.

The instructions were clear, do not touch! And they didn't, man am I lucky or what.

Now that they are teenagers, they get their own phones and drop them resulting in a few smashed screens, go figure.

You should have started them off with the Nokia dumbphones, with their incredible regenerative abilities and immortal battery life. Those things could get smashed to bits and still work after putting them back together. Plus they had Snake.

Discuss here so others in a similar situation in the future can also benefit. This was the issue with the shoutbox on CS.

Unless, of course, this is very personal for you.

Fair enough. Will repost my PM about the HE560 here. :)

I personally am fine with the highs (i.e. the much discussed shrillness does not bother me). Bass weight I am just ok with, though not as full bodied as a HD650 but I can accept it as it is since the perceived speed sounds better then (caveat being I wasn't driving the HD650 well). Probably am trying to look for a more natural presentation, with good dynamics and fluid vocals. I also do listen to piano quite a bit.

Not sure if I am giving you enough information which you'd like to know, purrin? Thanks in advance.

They had relatively modest phones by all of their friends standards. No iphones for them, hahaha

I owned the Violectric V181, Burson Soloist, and Burson Soloist SL.

I'll give Burson a big plus for their enclosure. They really look nice and clean in person. The Soloist also had a pair of RCA outs for a "preamp" feature. Preamp in quotes because there was some wonky issue where the treble was distorting in both channels. Couldn't ever figure it out. Also the stepped attenuator was troublesome. Tried many times to get the changes between the steps to be less audible without any luck. Pretty annoying pops. Purchased the unit brand new. The Soloist SL was okay, but at the $400-600 price range, I feel like there's better value for money and thought it was more or less on par with the Matrix M-stage (although they sounded very different).

Either way in the end felt like Burson's units were just not the best value proposition.

Violectric V181 - I actually really enjoyed this amplifier. It wasn't a detail king, and it was a bit soft in the treble, but other than that I thought it was pretty darn good. Great separation, really punchy bass, was compact, had all kinds of ins and gain settings. However, like Burson, at the asking price, I feel like there are better units out, but I felt the V181 was a better value proposition than the Burson units, sound quality wise.

Now that I think of it, there was a weird issue with the Burson I never figured out. Some kind of uneven treble or wonky mids I never figured out. Been a long time not.

I wish more of them would offer that as an option for purchase. Like this design:

I'd go for an amp with good slam and engagement for HE-560. Mjolnir 2, BW. Full tubes would not be good. The HE-560 really needs a solid-state output or something that has balls. Lyr 2 and Ember would be viable less expensive choices. If you want super cheap, Vali 2 (but this might just be a side grade with different presentation); but extra money can go to better DAC. The HE-560 will scale to better sources. But really, I think the first two choices (M2 and BW) are the ones which are step above the rest. The T3 maybe, but I don't think the T3 does as well with orthos.

Thanks for the advice purrin. :)
Would very likely get a Gungnir MB later this year (once I settle down enough geographically), maybe I could order a Mjolnir 2 at the same time then. Or an EC BW. Will read up some.

    Thanks again!

OP. I see you're from Knoxville.

We have our next Nashville headphone meetup on April 9th, which would be a great place for you to try tons of new gear.

Just drop me a PM if you're interested.

Atlanta also has a big meetup in the near future. Canlanta, if you want to google it.
