It generally gets good reviews, but also has it's detractors. I had the V281 for a few weeks and thought it sounded similar to my $900 Dangerous Music dac/amp combo. I personally think it's way overpriced, but by no means a bad amp. Just don't expect the mind-blowing experience some will try have you believe. I made the mistake of buying into the hype, but thankfully didn't lose money re-selling a 2nd hand unit. This is the way to go if you want to try it.

lol, death to all fake sounding amps/dacs !

on a more serious note, having complementary chains ftw, it would suck for me to have only the burson, but i could totally live with only the violectric,

too bad violectric did not ship the v200 set to dc coupling and dc grounding by default

Ok, I know this is going to be controversial, but I have to trust my ears. I just got a Burson Soloist SL Mk2 to use with my Audeze LCD2C. I upgraded from the Magni 3 which is a great entry-level amp, but the Soloist is just unreal. The biggest difference is the soundstage which is vastly more spacious on the Soloist. Burson is definitely a more neutral-sounding amp compared to the Magni 3 which is slightly warm and a bit more closed-in sounding. I have also tried the LCD2C with my Valhalla 2 and it was pretty good in terms of timbre and soundstage (better than the Magni 3), but it simply does not have the slam and the power of the Soloist.

In conclusion, the Soloist has fantastic synergy with the LCD2C and I cannot recommend it high enough.

The Soloist is in the $500 category, yes? What else is in that price range, or less... Massdrop's amp line up of Cavalli Liquid Carbon & MCTH, THX AAA 789, Bottlehead Crack, ifi idsd bl, Valhalla 2, Jotunheim, Lyr2, and the list goes on and on.

My point is - For the $, I view the Burson as an extremely low value to performance purchase compared to the features and sound of other solutions. I also don't care for opamps.

If you like it, you like it. That's all that matters. Just don't brainwash yourself into a tiny little biased world where Burson (or any other mfg) is the best there is and shit on all the rest. I see that happen way too much over at HeadFi, and especially in that caustic shithole called /r/headphones.

FWIW I take the Violectric V200 with me when I meet up with a director for an editing/cue/spotting session outside of the studio. I take two pairs of headphones, we each have a pair, and it works wonderfully for that purpose.

That being said, I see my V200 as being purely for utility - when I listen for pleasure, I'll use any of my other amps first. It's a flat, soft, and dull sounding amp. Great for fatigue-free use over the course of long sessions, but it doesn't have enough character of its own for more "audiophile" music-listening-type enjoyment.

I like it because it has two jacks, a super low noise floor, and the pre-gain function lets me use it with virtually any source, HPs, and even some IEM's... but not for its sonic presentation.

It did work nicely when I had my 2014 LCD-2F - that headphone had a super intense spike way up in the treble and a lot of grain, and the V200 certainly smoothed that out. Doesn't synergize with anything else I've used with it though.

I am the last person to be brainwashed by any company's doctrine. If anything, I own a lot of Schiit products and like them. I simply wanted to try the Soloist because all my research pointed to the fact that it sounds good with Audeze products. More and more I get into the whole headphone game, I realize that it is all about synergy between products. The Magni 3 simply did not sound great to me with the LCD2C and the Soloist does. By the way, I don't think the Soloist has any op-amps - it appears to be a fully discrete design. Not that I am religiously anti-op-amp, as my Bifrost Multibit has them and sounds great.

lol, funny how elnrik attacked u, also when ppl go godmode about 'value', some ppl just cant keep the noise down,

about the lcd2/3/X, i like those for their weight in the bass/mids, every note just sounds like coming from a real size instrument between your ears XD, with the soloist they just lost that so i didnt like it, on the v200 they sounded fantastic in that regard

somehow the v200 and soloist are rly complementary, the soloist makes instruments go supernova XD while the v200 is anal in keeping the proportions between instruments intact

I do agree to an extent. It is a very competitive price point. A lot of great options today compared to before. For ex: Jot, mcth, zd jr.

I think he thought you were attacking me :) I didn't get offended at all, I don't mind a healthy debate. My ultimate goal visiting headphone-related forums is to cut through all the marketing/fanboy/measurebating BS and provide and obtain a real, if inevitably subjective listening impression of products. That is why I felt like I had to post my opinion of the Soloist SL Mk2, as my very positive experience did not match the overwhelmingly negative sentiment about it on this forum.

especially with head hifi, there should be more focus on matching gear to music/instruments genre,

head hifi is just not meant to be, get the one perfect system, and u are set!

so having different gear covering different 'musics' that gonna rly make u 'feel em', kind of experience,

there is more leeway when talking about value, when you can kind of sort gear in that regard,

and would also make it easier to go for maybe two $250 complementary units instead of getting a compromising $500 one,

same as some1 spending $1k could end up much happier with a soloist+v200 combo than in getting any other $1k amp,

and that is where u can actually get insane value from head hifi imo

I think you hit the nail on the head. Sounds like you've wandered off the path, and your congregation is calling.

Stop posting image reactions and saying things like god mode and people will be more likely to give you a proper response. Also capitalization and punctuation are helpful.
Having more than one amp or headphone is fine. I like different combos for different purposes.

Listen to what you want but buying a bunch of cheap stuff is usually not a great value in the end. Below a certain price point it would be way better to have one good thing than two extremely mediocre ones.
