Figured I would post this from HF so everyone has plenty of time to book flights and hotels at a great rate.

I already booked my hotel and flight (suggest hotwire for hotel since I got a room for $89 a night). Will be flying in Saturday morning and leaving on Monday.

If there is member showcase again, and there will be some pyrates there (n3rdling in particular, since I want to hear his Orpheus clone), then I'll go. Otherwise, I'll wait for the next Bay Area meet.

I have no excuse not to go to this since it's about 15 minutes from my house.

I am going to have to hear the thoughts of the "basshead" on some of the headphones :)

I've heard most basshead headphones, and many of the headphones people think are bassy. Most people don't understand the kind of bass bassheads are really after.

People tend to think a bass emphasis is what we want, but what we really want is a headphone with the potential to get insane bass with the help of amplification and EQ.

Basically, if a headphone doesn't have a 50mm+ driver, it's not a basshead headphone in my book. I look for literal physical shaking, and nothing under 50mm that I've ever tried can get to where I want them to go.

This is our objective method of testing bass:

The JVC HA-SZ2000 is the most basshead-worthy headphone ever. Unfortunately, it sounds like @#$%. With a lot of EQ, you can make it sound good and get crazy ass bass.

The Fostex TH600/TH900 aren't too far behind in bass potential and sound significantly better, though no amount of rug padding could smooth the treble enough for me (I had to EQ no matter what).

The JVC HP-DX1000, to me, are nearly perfect. Incredible sound signature and one of the hardest-hitting bass cans at stock. They do not have the EQ potential of the headphones I mention above, though. Paper tests show physical movement, but not as much as the top 10 list (mostly because of the super soft earpads).

The next headphone I'm interested in hearing is the E-MU Teak--it looks to be the Denon D5000/D7000. If they didn't change the tuning, it'll still be too bright for my treble sensitivity, but it will be a great basshead can.

    Sennheiser HD800 has 57mm drivers.

Yep. If they weren't so freakin' expensive and weirdly shaped, I'd try to find a way to mod them to sound good and be closed back.

Basshead requirements tend to be 50mm+ drivers and semi-closed or closed headphones. Open lets too much bass out.

I would love to go to this, as I live in SoCal, but I may not be able to. Hopefully there are some other smaller SoCal meets throughout the year.

Why does the banner read like something that Mike Mercer wrote?

i'd rather give my left nut than put $ directly into mini Jude's g-string.
didn't pay for RMAF 2015 (CanJam) fees either thanks to partners.
this industry is ripe for a Headphone Hobby Associate meet that lines up across the street from Jude's extortion tables,
where dudes bring their own gear and speak truths from the peace pipe.

    WOW!! LOL
1st night and I found some something a-flamin' my way.

This makes me wholly appreciate Marvs advice. Though, bein' back in LA - I'll mos def be there again this year. I didn't write the banner - but I'm sure Warren did - since we have similar styles I can imagine why you'd say that - beyond any obvious hatin' going on. DAMN - all I've done is work in the music and audio industries for over 20 years and have Fun - sorry for the fellas that take offense to that.

I'll be there chillin' - feel free to seek me out.

No way Mike wrote that. Warren is weak in the ways of the Mercer. It makes me cringe to see Warren's lame attempt to emulate MM's style and fail so badly.

Oh hey! Small world, this land of Head-Fi. I sold them a couple weeks later. Crazy bass but I hated running EQ on them all the time.
