Speaking of shit stereo that comes with the car. I have a Rousch Mustang and it has the Shaker 500 sound system upgrade. Sounds like crap and there is no adjustment to get it right. It has the power but WTF if you can get it adjusted right. So frustrating. What was Ford sound engineers doing? Really now.

    Carbon tubs are available.

Plenty to remove. E92 for example. None of this is needed.

Ok, I don't expect most folks to get track serious with their cars, even if that's where my passion is. I do respect that BMW occasionally puts out cars that really made for performance driving, but I can respect that most folks want comfort to drive these cars on the road, and the performance is pretty respectable.

When it comes to racing bikes I've always lived by the motto that if it doesn't make it go, turn, or stop faster it is not something I would spend money on. Bling is never a consideration.

I'll try to get remotely back on topic... I put a modest system into my GMC HD2500 diesel pick up. It was the first time I had put an aftermarket stereo into a vehicle. I loved it. Even middle of the road equipment can put the stock systems to shame. New speakers, head, power amp, and a sub mounted in a custom box behind the rear seats. It was probably a little overkill for sports talk radio and books on tape. :)

They are not alone... My friends Porsche Cayman GTS has an abomination of a stereo (Bose). Complete fail. But the engine song is pretty darned sweet.

Was talking about CF monocoque instead of seats :p

Yeah, I'm unwilling to take away the luxuries of this car as it's so heavy to begin with. I'm looking into the possibility of getting a smaller, lighter car in the future like a Miata, S2000, or Evora 400.

I think thats a Toyota thing. I own a Camry and 2 Siennas and they all sounded bad. The Siennas had a factory amp and I think they did some goofy eq with them. As soon as I dropped aftermarket decks in them and bypassed the factory amps, they sounded decent. You may just need to put a basic head unit in your Rav to fix that.

Yup, in my 911 Turbo it's the same deal: BOSE!

It sounds absolutely terrible but I don't think I've turned it on once as the actual car itself is what I like to listen to, mainly the exhaust and the engine when it reaches high RPMs. You don't buy a Porsche for the sound system.

    :D

I've been toying with the idea of adding a sub or two to my car. I have the upgraded B&O stereo, which sounds surprisingly good. Me being me, just want some more bass. Nothing crazy though. Haven't messed with car audio in forever though, has to be close to 20 years. I know JL Audio was one of my favorites back then, so I'd probably look to them now. Still on the fence, especially since my car is a convertible and easily broken into. So no head unit upgrades, plus, I wouldn't want to mess with the electronics of this car anyway. Probably a bad idea all around anyway. Like I said, on the fence.

e90post has a big dedicated audio forum. Looks like no specific area for that on 6post but if you just do a search for audio a ton of threads on subs come up.

Just got a pair of 10" JL 10W1 woofers in a jl box. Pretty nice for the $60 I payed, and $60 for an amp, Craiglist is good.
I'll get picture soon, but they nice. Mirror shakes with the bass

Listening more and sometimes I just think f**k sound quality, just turn up the bass and listen to my car rattle to some 90s rap. This thing is nice.
But also I can turn it down and get some nice bass added to other music

Mass loader/CLD your damn car so you hear bass instead of rattling.

Yeah I was thinking about that, it's a lot of work, but might do it eventually. Gotta figure out where the rattling is coming from, but right now it sounds like everything is rattling

Mass load your car: from my experience in the 1980s I say - undergraduates are cheap.

Car stereo is like trying to get good sound in the worst room ever created. With the listening position off in the far corner of the room facing away from the speakers. Hilarious.

Start the damping process with your rear license plate. Since you’re a cheap college student, I recommend a sponge or two. After that just try to find which plastic interior thing is rattling against some other plastic thing and shove something between them.

I'll try that. I think my rearview mirror was making a bit of noise shaking around, but not much I can do about that really.
I'll go around my car finding what rattles

Tons of randos have leftover modding material from HD6** mods. Use that behind your license plate. Lowering the resonant frequency of the material is more effective here. See if you can do your trunk lid and license plate first.

I've got a hatchback, no trunk lid.
Does the license plate even rattle? I didn't think so but I'll check.
