Someone in another thread posted that Alex sold all his designs to Massdrop (hence the recent Cavalli drops). Anyone know if that includes the Liquid Tungsten? That amp deserves to have a production run.

Liked for clearing up BS. Still sad that some things will never see the light of day.

I think the MD partnership will bear good fruit. I know Christian and I know Alex and I suspect they work quite well with each other.

Also, Warren makes me throw up a little in my mouth when I see his face these days.

I'm sure I'm the weird one, but I'd love to check out the DAC proto Alex was fiddling with. I'm sure it wasn't even close, but its fun to see someone challenge themselves. Especially smart people...

I hope he makes available his designs to the DIY community. At least the ones that aren’t going to be released by Massdrop.

I'm not familiar with the lineup but always liked the design aesthetics. Through the test of time, which of the Cavalli amps are considered to sit in the same king of the hill class as, say, the ZDS? Or to phrase this differently: which models should one keep half an eye on in the used market?

As an owner of a Liquid Carbon V1, to which Cavalli Audio subsequently gave a Lifetime Warranty, the closing of the company is disturbing. The value of both Liquid Carbon V1 and V2 took a hit when the Massdrop version was announced. Now I assume our amps are worth even less on the used market as we have no warranty. It's nice that there is a repair facility available, but what I thought what was a Lifetime Warranty is gone.

It would be nice if Cavalli audio would make service manuals available online for owners to download. At least give those who are qualified to perform service some help if needed. Are there any legal ramifications for a company that gives an extended warranty and then closes and cancels those warranties? Does the company have any ongoing obligations even though they decide to close?

I can provide web server instances if needed. That DIY stuff needs to be available. CTH, EHHA, CKK, etc.

Warren was a full fledged CS member who had access to the ABS chatboxes where all the shit would fly. For as much SBAF is considered pro-Schiit, CS was just as much pro-Cavalli back then. CS members also backed Alex up during the LLgate incident. Don't know why a CEO (and CEO is really stretching it), wouldn't leverage a known friendly resource to help his company. Put it this way: I've helped Craig at EC way more as Part-time Chief Culture Officer. EC was actually on the verge of not existing two years ago.

Oh, wow. Thank you for sharing the backstory, I wasn’t aware he was an ex-member. I presume there was no ill will upon the end of his participation?

So, ex CS member -> silence at Cavalli -> Meet no-show -> Working at HF. I could come up with a conspiracy theory or two based on that chain of events.

Much appreciated - I only wish I had the forethought to pull off the data while it was still live as Alex never backed up the host data himself - I will see what I can cobble together .

I can also tell you that he will not be publishing any of the production designs for DIY. This is not selfish or mean spirited but rather more of a support issue as the boards are 4 layer and very specifically designed to perform the way they do - anyone trying to lay out a 2 layer board will run into some challenges. I had this conversation with him a long time ago as designs were retired ( Liquid Fire ) , and know that his positioned would be unchanged. Laying out boards was a gift that Alex had, I have yet to see anyone so skilled , it was part of the artist in him.

One more then back to work, warranties could be spelled Warrenties and that is all I will say about that.

Using the Wayback Machine (Internet archive) here is what I was able to pull up for the CTH:

    - Home page
    - Design page
    - Schematic page
    - Parts list page
    - Boards page
    - Instructions page
    - Wiring page
    - Setup page
    - Tweaks page
    - Talk page

Some of the resources might not work as expected. I can dig around a little more when I get home tonight.

This looks like I get pull up most of the projects - thanks

@Marv - can you pull the code across directly or is it better for me to try and archive

It's really sad that this is happening. I've enjoyed talking to Alex a lot and he has helped me move my Liquid Glass fro
    Hi dBel84,

I'm very curious about the reason for this - considering the amp has been showcased at many meets with the design being in final stages, and considering the praise it has received all around, I'm wondering what the reason is for the entire thing to go to waste, if you can share. Maybe massdrop is not the right outlet for a high priced amp, but is sourcing it through one of the many niche amp producers to take this one up not possible at all?

    Thanks

I can pull the code. Let me share a dropbox with you. Will be in touch later tonight. I'm sure we can find enough bits and pieces and reassemble something for Alex.

you have pretty much answered your own question - it is not the ideal product aligned to MD's philosophy and who is going to want to buy the intellectual property from Alex to market a single product without his branding.

Though to be fair, the growing Chinese clone/whoknowswhat market was taking a big bite out of that too. Schiit merely kept some of that on American soil.

Also sad to see this happen. Alex was a stand-up guy (remember the crap thrown at him for delays on the Liquid Carbon when he was trying to do the right thing for the product) and indeed fun to chat with at shows. He was one of the most chill guys at the shows. Only times I ever saw him worked up a bit was about the LC stuff and also when some douchebag stole a Noble K10 Universal from his table at SoCal. Glad I got my LAu when I did (one of the last few made) and don't plan to give it up.

    RIP CA :(
