Updated the chart and made appropriate PC corrections. Remember, positioning on left-right axis is not arbitrary.

    Here's my Soundstage Chart.
Soundstage Quality is a simplification for multiple variables such as layering, imaging, clarity and coherence.

Hmm... I don't know about that K702 placement. The pair of K701s that I used to have had a very unnaturally large and cavernous soundstage. It felt so diffused. I couldn't stand listening to it for more than a day.

Huh, I actually thought the sound stage on the T1v1 was garbage, maybe there's a subtle defect in my set. It felt like it wrapped around my head in the middle of the stage.

Certain degree of variance has been reported (and measured) here and there regarding to the AKG K7... family.
Mine's a late (bumpless) K702. Driver matching is top class.
Source and amplification might play a role as well.

That's pretty rare, unless you have an early T1 similar to those messy ones measured by Marv and Goldenears.

AKG K7 series soundstage is wonky as hell. Listen to any string section and they sound like violinists are getting out of their chairs and walking around. Put on any metal with twin hard panned distorted guitars like Slayer, Deicide, Sepultura, or Dismember and you'll hear the headphones separate the notes/string plucking from the distortion. Try listening to panned drum rolls on them. DT 880/990s and the HD 800 can do similar things but not as bad.

That doesn't happen on the accurate (for a headphone) HD 600 and even more so HD 650. The 600 tends to screw up higher fret string parts and noodly shred guitar leads. The HD 650 doesn't but can recess cymbals to be behind the rest of the drum kit.

Agreed. I'd switch T1 and HD6x0 places in x-axis with the caveat that holding the y-axis position.
And the K701 (assuming similarity to K702) has next to no definition but is massive in size.
Great idea though Klasse, limiting these things to a few well defined parameters instead of vague 'sound quality' plot, like mine sort of is.

Size vs accuracy of instrumental staging would be better.

Could be, but it's hard for me to take those loud studio recordings (average levels -5 dBFS!) as my reference for soundstage.

I much prefer well recorded opera and classical music as well as simplistic music with a small number of well positioned instruments.
Sessions From The 17th Ward by Amber Rubarth (Chesky) is nice.
K702 is far from perfect, but I appreciate its open, layered and well defined soundstage.

    -------
PS. I don't hear the "sound like violinists are getting out of their chairs and walking around." thing...
    It would be interesting though.

I'll check my serial number when I get home after the holidays. Given my luck, I probably have a PoS set. You guys seriously would not believe how bad my luck is.
