Chess, Anyone?

I couldn't find @winders either.

sphinxvc and I have a game going now. Anyone else, feel free to send me a challenge!

It'll be nice to get some rust off before the school year starts and I'm being slaughtered by my students, haha.

 

My 8-year old son is a pretty serious competitive scholastic chess player (top 100 USCF for his age) and he goes to the Marshall Chess Club in NYC pretty regularly. I played as a kid, but was never too good and my interest kind of waxes and wanes with his. Now that the school year is over he has been playing less and I have as well. He is much better than me although I can sometimes use my devastating adult skill of patience to eek out a victory in a long time control with him. Any kind of blitz or shorter time control and he blows me off the board as I am just not fast enough. And in terms of chess tactics puzzles he just destroys me. He was over 2,000 on chess.com tactics for a while although has dropped below that now. I am typically between 1,400 and 1,500 tactics although he has done my puzzles for me recently and artificially boosted me above 1,700.

For a while I tried to play 15/10 or 30 minute standard games at night and started reading some opening books (my son doesn't read chess books but rather relies on lessons, a luxury I cannot afford myself), but have not had much time lately for that and just been playing 2-3 3/day games on chess.com of late. I used to do 1 move per day but timed out too frequently. I will hit some of you up with game requests if that is OK.
