I have an m9xx in my office at home. My office at home is also "the cat room" and thus gets very dusty. Also, more often than not, the m9xx is feeding my F5s. So I have two questions:

    1. What's the best/safest way to clean a headphone jack?
    2. Does anyone make a good full-sized dust plug for a headphone jack? I've seen them for iPhones, etc. But a bit of searchign didn't give me a good 1/4" example. I don't just want to use a detached jack - I'm thinking that would prevent the m9xx from using the RCAs (but maybe I'm wrong).

I don't know the 'safest' way but I used isopropyl rubbing alcohol on my contacts once and I don't believe there's any harm in using that.

First turn off and disconnect the equipment!

Yes, I know you knew that, but a lot of people do make such mistakes and they can be expensive!

I'd use a cottonbud or three. IPA might be a good start, DeOxit might take you step further. Together with crossed fingers, if there actual contact problems with the socket, this might fix them.

They must do. I bought a couple of packs of assorted-everything-audio dust caps from Sim Lim Square years ago, but the same guy never seemed to have them again. So the answer is yes, but finding them is another matter. Ebay?
