A very nice night. Far too few of them, but cherished when they happen.

@shaizada mighty fine. we should do some listening sessions and i'll bring a couple bottles of stuff so we can sample a variety of things. we did this in austin before i moved to the bay area but sadly the tradition took a pause here. no idea why!!

    Hey, I won't fight that offer :)
I'm thinking of picking up a bottle of Yamazaki 18 as well as it is being raved about. The Japanese seem to be dominating the World of Whiskey awards....imagine that...beating the Scotts at their own game?! Ok thread getting derailed. Back to vinyl :)

Listening to Norah Jones - Day Breaks right now. Superb mastering by Bernie Grundman!

This album caused me a great deal of anxiety prior to it's release. I was a huge fan of 'Roxy Music' and 'For Your Pleasure'. I knew that this would be the first Roxy Music album without Eno (as he was called back then). I had a fear that Roxy Music would suffer without his participation. The first time I played 'Stranded', by the time "Amazona" played I was relieved. Roxy Music was still great.

Then, a couple of months later 'Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets' came out. To my surprise, I liked it even more!

I was in high school, and all of this was a BFD to me.:)

Here is how I start out:
Go to the "Music Forum" sub-forum
In the Search box enter the title you are interested in and the word: best
Look at the results for a likely looking thread

Sometimes I get lucky pretty quickly, sometimes I have to dig deeper.

It helps after you get familiar with the more knowledgeable members. Or a consensus (or something close to a consensus).

Hey guys, I've been collecting vinyl for some months now but havent had the money to actually get a turntable. So my post isnt so much about what I'm listening to on Vinyl, but more like playing the album on my computer and looking at the artwork, etc on the record i'm holding in my hands :p

Just picked up two GIAA albums after the concert on sunday! Was surprised that they had the limited coloured versions for sale there, considering theyve been sold out everywhere. Got the self titled one and Helios Erebus (they didnt have All is Violent, All is Bright - my favourite album)

Unfortunately no picture, I'm supposed to be working on my thesis at the University now but SBAF came in the way

Some Wagner, some Steely Dan, and a whole bunch of Musical Heritage Society bullshit or something like that. The latter was apparently an organization in New York/NJ that imported some pretty niche stuff from Europe. The collection that I lucked into was '60's era performances of Rennaissance French church songs. They were recorded decently and the previous owner cared about his (I know who he was) vinyl. I don't like church music and I don't like music from 400 years ago, but I do like well-recorded music and I like music that's composed correctly, so I like this even though I shouldn't. The fact that they're apparently performing in my fireplace is icing on the cake.

You already know about Steely Dan, or should.

This was all the result of my weekly rounds through the local Goodwills. We have stores here and the other two bordering towns. I don't bother roaming further than that. The prices on vinyl range from $6 downards, sharply downwards. Most of what I purchased today was for $1 per record or less. I passed on the records that were scratched up or obviously abused. The majority of these were nearly new by appearance. The cheapest records are classical, so you could probably imagine my surprise when I found Aja in the bargain bin, but I'm not complaining about it.

And now you know my secret. The hipsters are just starting to f**k up the prices on vinyl in Silverdale, but Bremerton and Port Orchard haven't gotten the word yet. Don't tell anyone, okay?

I saw Explosions In The Sky last weekend while millions (billions) in India just watched firecrackers go off in the sky for diwali :)

Had to buy this album after the concert, it's my favourite one of theirs

Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms. I attended my first honest-go-goodness vinyl store in Seattle yesterday. I spent some money. I'm now enjoying that expenditure.

Odd choice, I always found that album to sound overly digital. Makes sense as it was recorded in 16/44.1. Dire Straits self titled however, that's a winner IMO.
