Inside that zip file you downloaded is an executable that will install the driver. Let it do it , not windows, worked for me on my win 7 setup. Hope that helps.

Thanks - up and running. Mutec 1.2 with Gungnir Multibit connected with bnc cable.

Immediate impressions include decent improvement of details, cleaner seperation, improved soundstage. Snaps on Tame Impala let is happen are sharper, cymbals have a decay that sounds more accurate? Longer listening will give a better impression, but I started out skeptical and something has changed for the better.

Feel free, but I don't mind keeping discussions within this thread. If you want to talk only of a specific product and are worried about a long thread having people miss out on good info, I encourage you to make a separate thread (like I did with D100).

All the variables @purrin mentioned is why I opted for a solution like the Soundware D100. If a unit like that is done right, you don't have to worry about USB or any of the other computer-based variables. And usually it makes for a sonic payoff.

I feel kind of silly writing a HF fan boy post here, but I am loving the difference I am hearing. Same notes as above, but with all music i've tried good recordings and bad. Music tonally sounds the same as the amp gives the music its character, but it is amplifying a better source. More detail, wider soundstage, cleaner sounding. Basically what I thought the wyrd would do before I tried one and improvements were very small / in my head. I also was kinda disapointed in Gungnir Multibit vs the Bifrost Multibit I previously owned, but I feel this was the leap forward I was hoping for. Maybe my lenovo laptop didnt have the best USB outs?

    My chain - JRiver -> Mutec 1.2 -> Gungnir Multibit -> Lyr 2 -> HD650 / HD800

Just hope this doesn't come crashing back to reality tomorrow, but I do not think it will. Not sure how much better the 3+ model could be, but as @Hands has been recommending the mc-1.2 is really really nice. I know this whole line of converters has received a fair amount of skepticism, but there is a difference and I can justify the cost of the improvements.

The MC-1.2 is much more for the money than the MC-3+ for our purposes. The MC-3+ USB has a bunch of other features beyond what we can actually use just for music listening, so you're paying hundreds for superfluous functionality.

I wish I'd only tried the MC-1.2. The itch had to be scratched once I heard the big brother so now I have a second MC-3+ USB on the way for work.

For the vultures (and I say it endearingly!) who were hoping to snap up my second Mutec 3+ USB, it's staying. After a weekend with the 3+ at home, I missed it at work. I know if I were to go with a 1.2 at work and 3+ at home, I'd feel like I was missing something.

Is the Mutec 1.2 the best budget USB interface up to 400€? A friend of mine keeps pestering me to sell him my concero but i like it as as interface (pc - concero - yulong d18), does its job without a fuss but since he really likes it im interested in knowing if any1 can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I can't speak for every USB interface out there, but the 1.2 is so far the best product of its type I've heard in its price point. It stacks up very well against other products.

To me it was a value proposition. I could justify the 1.2 and cleaning up the source input for $450, but not the 3+USB and the extra extra bit for $1,000. Overall I am pretty happy with that decision. Now if I heard a 3+USB that might be different.

For others, that value proposition is different and they cant imagine that I am going half way on price and two third of the way on performance. Most, likely see this as a silly waste of money to begin with. YMMV

Thank you very much, for a noob like me sometimes the numbers pop out of place, like the clock limit being 192, i had to do some research to understand how that would not be as important as i once thought."The other forum" sometimes gives some wrong ideas for some1 with as little knowledge as myself.

    Thanks @Hands.

@JoshMorr The MC-1.2 probably gets 90% of the way to the MC-3+ on my setup. Unfortunately, you're paying for a lot of other awesome functionality almost none of us will ever use with the MC-3+.

This..... I am probably not even using the bi-directional feature on the 1.2 (at least not yet)

Hmm, just to clarify, in the Mutec 3+ thread it read like the difference was worth it, and in this one, you say the MC-3+ is overkill? Not to troll, but I guess the 10% is still easily discernable? Just asking, as am about to give up an pull the trigger on one.

It's not easily discernable. I'm mostly using the 3+ to satisfy the itch. I have the money right now so I'm just getting the top for the sake of being sure I have the best.

I also tried the 3+ first and clearly hard improvements for the first time with any converter.

So I have a second MC-1.2 here now, it also makes the awful high pitched SMPS noise/hash inside the case when powered on from mains. Are you guys seriously telling me if you put your ear near the case, you hear nothing? My room is very quiet so I can hear it <1m away on my desktop. Personally I can't even stand similar high pitched HDD noise coming from PC, which is why I purely use SSD and quiet fans etc..

I could simply use USB power, but knowing such "defect" doesn't make me want to splurge on that. Too bad..

I get absolutely no issues. I wonder if it's sensitive to power issues? My power is very clean after an ISOBAR8ULTRA and Emotiva CMX-6.

When I have a 1.2 at home (currently at work), I can plug into one of my crappy power outlets and see if it makes noise.

I have my Furman cleaner and DC eliminator too, makes no difference.. I guess 115V vs 230V can make a difference too. I'm emailing Mutec, let's see what they have to say..
