Funny how so many here like the ZX2. Almost bought one but after reading this I am not sure anymore:

    http://ohm-image.net/data/audio/rmaa-sony-nw-zx2-24-bit

    And this:

    ByWillon April 23, 2017

WARNING ABOUT SONY. I spent $1200 on the Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 when it came out in early 2015. It came with Android 4.2.2 and is still running 4.2.2. I have contacted Sony several times through many channels about upgrading the version of Android that the device is running but Sony absolutely refuses to upgrade Android on their own Walkman device. It's not like they don't have the knowledge; Sony has Android phones and tablets which they do update. They've just decided that those of us who spent the $1200 on the NW-ZX2 aren't worth the trouble. As Android advances and apps are adapted to the new versions of Android, app comparability is starting to become a problem. Get this: Sony's own Android app "Sony Music Center", which replaced Song Pal - which is no longer available - will not install on Android 4.2.2 showing error message " Your device isn't compatible with this version". It's Sony's own hardware and software! This new Walkman NW-WM1Z does not run on Android. It runs on proprietary software. That will limit your audio source choices and you still have no guarantee at all if you're going to get any firmware or software. Stay away from Sony's audio devices. They'll burn you. It's not worth it especially considering that the NW-WM1Z costs $3200. There are other brands and devices out there. You don't need Sony. Look elsewhere.

    Great build quality, disappointing sound.

This review is from: Sony NW-ZX2 128GB ZX2 High-Resolution Audio Walkman (Japanese Import) (Electronics)
Like 1-Star reviewer 'Cheonmin Sohn', I too am coming from a Cowon device - specifically the excellent and much less expensive Cowon J3 player. I tried to get better sound from this Sony device, and it just wasn't better. The tests I performed were methodical, used HD high end headphones from Audio Technica, used lossless FLAC tracks and, if anything, the results sounded inferior to the Cowon J3 (which, by the way, is known for it's JetEffect integrated audio technology). The CNET review on this Sony device did warn about it's lackluster power output. I ignored that review wanting to love this device, but they proved to be correct: Whereas I had to boost the software preamp level on this Sony device to help raise the power output level, I did not have to do that on the Cowon J3. The Sony's battery life leaves much to be desired, too ... a lesson I also learned the hard way because the CNET review pointed that out, too.

The only thing going for it IMHO is the absolutely stellar build quality and sturdy feel of the unit and its control buttons, and that it runs Android (albeit an older version). But that alone doesn't justify the steep price. It sounded on par with other players. Trust me folks - I tried many scenarios/tests, but my lowly (3 year old) $250.00 32 GB (expandable) Cowon J3 would not be denied (and that unit has stunning battery life, too).

So consider buying that or something along those price-point lines (from Cowon or others). You will get the same or better sound at a significantly better price point. Don't fall for the price and marketing hype. Learn from me. =:). I hope this helps others.

Maybe. One thing I do keep reading that is true no doubt is the screen resolution is not the best. Even my cheap 10 year old HTC beats it. Sad.

Yes I put my running shoes on and I'm running as fast as possible. Later I'll get into the car and drive away even faster.

Please stop posting ZX2 reviews from other sites. I'm sure other readers know how to use Google as well as you. Take some time to learn the culture here - you'll find that very little credence is given to external reviews and a lot of emphasis is put on sound quality.

Don't waste our time, asking 10000 questions, having a bunch of super knowledgeable and experienced people politely answer them, and then pull off this contrarian shit by posting links to reviews that don't even talk about sound quality or synergy with the Andromeda. It's one thing you if you personally disagree and say why you disagree. It's another to post reviews from randos who we don't even know nor care about.

Is this not a public site where we can share what we think or learn/ask or find and share about audio? Where does it say that in the forum rules we are not allowed to? What you may not think is relevant someone else may find relevant. Not everyone may have time to search Google, you assume a lot. You also negated to note I did also find a very positive review. I did state why I disagreed, the screen quality. Apparently you are not reading all post just skimming.

Your post does not reflect a "Super Best Audio Friends" more like a personal attack.

Yes, but with radically higher standards, and with better taste. :) the job of public site with almost no standards and no taste is already taken by another site you may have heard of.

Cussing and attacking is not a "better taste" nor should it be for this site or any public site including censoring and aggression.

    @Hi-Fi

Careful now, you're treading on thin ground. You may wish take into account what @Marvey has to say. Also, the standard recommendation at this point is to just stop, step away from the keyboard, and leave things be. Otherwise you may not appreciate how things turn.

Speaking of rules, if you haven't done so already please check them out:
    http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/must-read-for-new-members.3/

Taking some time to understand them, e.g. by reading the forums for the coming weeks without posting, will save you a world of trouble in these lands.

    Good luck!

Your posts are annoying to read because you have been offered answers overwhelmingly in support of the ZX2, but you persist in trying to undermine those suggestions because you want to be told that, whatever you do, you should not buy the ZX2.

Whatever you do, do not buy the ZX2. It makes for a sub-par paring with the Andro. Buy the Hugo 2 instead.

No. All established members here know how to search Google, including how to use the advanced Google search operators. If they don't, they are probably learning right now this very minute.

I saw that, but that is beside the point. We really don't give a crap about most reviews, positive or negative, especially from untrusted sources. What we really care about is what YOU hear.

In the big tab above where it says: "IMPORTANT Are you new? Before your first post, do the following: Read this! AND Introduce yourself here!" We cover basic protocol for introducing yourself and what to do before you make your first post. Think of this as a simple test. Most people who fail this test don't last long here.

Don't take it as a personal attack. It's just a matter of fact statement. I think you've been shown a lot of courtesy considering that you didn't bother reading the IMPORTANT Are you new here?

This is Super Best Audio Friends. It's just that you are NOT one of them (this status must be earned). For instance, I do not walk into the Hall of Justice and expect that Batman or Superman accept me as one of them or even as one of their human helpers like Commissioner Gordon or Steve Trevor. When I walk into the Hall of Justice, I just assume that I am a random Porker to the likes of Wonder Woman or The Flash, and just try to stay out of their way. I do not ask members of the Justice League what is the best way for humans to resist Darkseid and his minions; and upon receiving such advice, counter with what I was told by The Avengers or the Doom Patrol.
